edward_dayoan
I recently was given an old (but apparently in great working condition) Vivitar 5200 Auto Thyristor Flash Unit. I have a Nikon N6006 and was wondering if this flash unit will work with this camera.
michael erlich
Yes, but older flash units may have a synch voltage high enough to damage modern electronically controlled cameras. Power up the flash and measure the voltage across the hotshoe contacts. If it's around 250V, as it is on my old Vivitar 283, it may damage your camera. Wein makes a gadget called a Safe-Sync that safely lowers the synch voltage the camera sees.
