gl5
Is there a gizmo (like a cord shutter release with a timer on it) that would allow me to do timed long exposures with the Leica M7? I'm talking about it being able to handle hours with the shutter open, not just minutes. Anyone?
ned_learned
If you that much time forget a "gizmo" and get a locking cable release. For a timer, purchase a Timex that attaches to your wrist.
george_b1
Hours? Watch that reciprocity!
todd frederick
Anything you do for that length of time will ge a guess at best. Keep a log to records nots on your numerous attempts, use a regular clock/watch for timing purposes, and try again and again. There really is no way to accuratly measure exposures for that length of time on the market within a reasonable price range that I know of, even if such exists. You're going to have to actually think about and calculate exposure options and, as mentioned, calculate reciprocity failure factors. Be prepared for a "learning experience" ;>)! fotografz
How long do the batteries last in a M7 under constant drain for hours and hours?
art waldschmidt
I recall something about a Prontor Ultra Slow cable release.....(or was that an hallucination?) - don't know of anything calibrated for "hours"!
andrew n.bra hrefhttp
Did some digging on the net and found the following <A HREF="http://home.att.net/~drt-3d/toys/timers/">link</A> (scroll down to the bottom of the page). Unfortunately the guy who put the page together lacked the wit to say who made the timer, or where he bought it! So will have to contact him directly
gee-bug
I think I found Mr. Nemeth's Prontor timer device at <a href="http://www01.bhphotovideo.com/default.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=ProductActivator__Aproductlist_html___31632___LIST___USA___CatID=0___SID=EF893F6E130" target="_blank">B&H</a>. I think the Timex suggestion may be more cost effective: they want $638.95 for it!
andrew n.bra hrefhttp
Ah, now we're getting somewhere. It's called a "<B>Prontor Professional Timer</B>" and was discussed elsewhere on photo.net back in Jan 2002. Click <A HREF="http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id =001tJV">here</A> to read.<P> Mind you, $US 600 is just a <U>wee</U> bit over the top. Currently I use the stopwatch method, but having to shoot 7 images in sequence (for QTVRs) can be a pain. Would much prefer just hitting a gizmo button and let it count-down to (say) 16 seconds with the M4-P on B. Hmm, looks like I've got to make one of these timer things myself!
