Trouble logging on and signing up to photo.net?

Keep getting a server error when I want to sign up with my home E-

mail address. There seems to be less new postings than on the

greenspun BB - who else is having problems - oh yeah, dumb question, -

if you cant get on you can't answer!

well, viewing photos doesn't seem to work since last night for me. someyhing is not koscher. i think the site is being admin on Boston time so give them some daylight time to figure things out

Leica Photo and Minox Photo.

The biggest migration issue was that greenspun.com didn't validate email addresses; so there are many, many, misspellings and capitalization-differences in the database. As a result of errors in handling these, there are now 330 users in the photo.net database who have two or more accounts differing only in the capitalization of the email address. This was preventing the users from logging in, since the system didn't know which account to log the person in under. I fixed that bug.

 

But there is still a similar problem with the password recovery form, which I am in the process of fixing. I also need to figure out what to do about automatically merging the content of these 330 accounts, since it is too many to do by hand.

 

You're right that the posting rate has dropped. But this isn't surprising. There were 187 postings yesterday in the Leica Forum, compared to an average of around 250-300 per day on LUSENET, excluding days when LUSENET was down. However, it is ramping up quickly on photo.net. Also, unlike all of the other forums, Leica and Large Format aren't closed yet for replies on LUSENET. This is because these two forums were the biggest and I haven't yet moved over the many messages that were posted after June 2.

John, I just checked, and you are one of the users affected by this problem. You seemed to have used about five different email addresses on LUSENET, and two of them were different capitalizations of the same address, which is the one I assume you were having problems with. I hope to get the Password Recovery Form working for you this morning.

I suspect we are dealing with growing pains.

I can't access the forum during lunch hour any more, since photo.net has been blocked for several years where I work. I don't know how many other folks are affected by this, but it might affect the posting rate.
