ed_candland1
I'm aware that many on the old forum weren't crazy about the move here. But it seems like we lost so many and that there's so much less trafic here. Do some think that it's so bad at photo.net that it's not worth joining in on this forum anymore? FWIW, I think it's the people that make the forum and I don't really care all that much what server it's on.
sal_santamaura
Ed, I think there are three reasons why many folks who frequented this forum on LUSENET are conspicuous in their absence now: -See the two recent threads that discuss "Admin perspective" and "Should we stay." A number of intellectual property and other concerns are well expressed in them and need not be repeated here. -Many new postings are redundant, covering topics previously discussed in the archives. No need for those who've already answered to waste time responding again. -Frivolous new postings. Need I say more on this one? Since Tuan has announced that another venue will be offered in the future, perhaps it's best the heavyweights sit it out for a while. Then, if photo.net declines to allow transfer of postings made between June 2 and the next move date, only contributions of lesser value (like mine!) will be lost. ed_candland1
Steve, I can see the intellectual property issue to a point if its in the case of an article. But as far as the Q & A posts I guess I dont really see it. The way I see it an e-group is nothing more than an electronic conversation. I dont really see it in terms of property and I dont really see why it would matter if it took place in one location or down the street. So to speak. On LUSENET there was also redundant and frivolous posting. Maybe not as much, but theres nothing saying you need to read every post. I guess not everyone agrees with me and I just miss everyone and I hope we can find a forum like the old days. sob sob..:-(
ed_candland1
OOPS I meant Sal. I was rading 2 posts at the same time.
eugene_singer
Ed, I suspect that most of them are out shooting. It's vacation and summer travel time. Wish I could get out there with them, instead of hanging around here at home this damn computer. Anyone who is pouting and resentful about the move should try growing up, already! It's a done deal. The change has taken place. When change happens, accept it, it's not the end of the world. It's only going to lead to bigger and better things. I'm going to bed now. As you can see,I'm getting tired and cranky. Goodnight.
john lehman, college alask
At 125 pounds I suspect I am not one of the heaviweights referred to above :-) My absence over the next week or two will be because I will be off in the Yukon shooting the 50 sheets of film I loaded this morning -- the forum probably is most active when its members are not. mottershead
Ed, even when the forum was on LUSENET there were slow days like this. Yesterday was a bit slow also, after two very busy days on Monday and Tuesday. At photo.net we're very pleased with the way things are going, despite some controversy. psychophoto
I'm here.....periodically. I haven't gone through the motions to get alerts yet, so I just don't think about this forum as much, I suppose. It is disappointing to see the decline in quality activity by the regulars, though.
gary_meader
I agree that from what I read, the intellectual property thing is a moot point. Unless one considers what one says all day long his/her property. I don't. As long as we have a place to do what we're doing, until Nirvana comes along, let's make the best of it. brian_ellis3
I don't get the supposed problems with this new location. It seems exactly like the old one to me once you bookmark it. Plus there are some interesting things here that the old one didn't have, such as the apparent ability to post images, your personal history, etc. I was appalled to see that I've posted 425 messages. I've certainly been wasting some time that could have been better spent photographing : - ) . . . but it was kind of fun to see that and to look at a few of my old posts. I know it's human nature to resist change, but this change seems very minimal to me. At a minimum, it's certainly an improvement over the last few months of the old location which you couldn't access half the time.
jim_galli4
ED, This is the first time I've been able to post anything. At work on my Gov't computer that uses me as a different email name that I don't want to use in this forum, I CAN'T post. I've tried several times. Maybe Brian will step in and tell me why. I do most of my reading and posting on this forum during my lunch break at work. Used to anyway.
jeffrey_scott
I've been gone for a couple of weeks photographing the Monterey coastline, so I have a bit of catching up to do. This site really is not a whole lot different from the old one, just a few new things to get used to; we all just have to live with the changes and get on with our usual business. joe_buechler
Jim, network administrators at the government, and at many large companies, have banned/blocked photo.net for several years for various reasons. I can't access this forum at lunch time any more either. I'll be happy when the new home is ready. Until then, I'm kinda out of luck. Joe
