patricks
OK, this might be old news to many but I just found this link to a site that allows you to calculate the local sunset/rise
click here
tony_rowlett2
I got eroneous results. It's hard to believe that the sun didn't rise this month until after 1pm. It's usually up by 6:30am. I might have entered data incorrectly, though. I'll give it another check. Below is what I got the first time:

Sunrise/Sunset ResultsAnchorage International Airport (ANC flight&FBO data aerial photographs CAP aerial photographs street map)Anchorage, AK (Anchorage Borough)N61deg 10' 28" W149deg 59' 46"US/ALASKA (GMT-0)We couldn't find ANC as an 'Airport Name'but found it as an 'Airport ID' May 2002 ANC CTS SR SS CTE M'day Len 1 12:54 13:51 06:04 07:01 09:57 16:13 2 12:51 13:48 06:07 07:05 09:57 16:19 3 12:47 13:45 06:10 07:08 09:57 16:24 4 12:44 13:43 06:12 07:12 09:57 16:30 5 12:40 13:40 06:15 07:15 09:57 16:35 6 12:36 13:37 06:18 07:19 09:57 16:41 7 12:33 13:34 06:20 07:22 09:57 16:46 8 12:29 13:31 06:23 07:26 09:57 16:51 9 12:25 13:29 06:25 07:29 09:57 16:5710 12:22 13:26 06:28 07:33 09:57 17:0211 12:18 13:23 06:31 07:37 09:57 17:0712 12:14 13:21 06:33 07:40 09:56 17:13
tony_rowlett2
Doh! It's not Alaska Standard Time, it's GMT! But it knows the time zone, why can't it display the data in local time?

tony_rowlett2
I did the computation again for my area with correct results. This time, I left the time zone setting on "Automatic." Last time, I provided "US/Alaska."

gary_brown2
Pat, great link! now I'll put it to use. Good to hear from you again. The camera and lens you sold me is excellent, if Pat has anything for sale don't hesitate; he's a good honest guy!!!!
ralph_barker
Another site with a similar tool is the U.S. Naval Observatory. This one doesn't require a nearby airport, and will also calculate moonrise/set, too. (Important for Noctilux users, I'm sure. ;-) )
hans_berkhout
I don`t do the leg work myself. I got a very handy and correct laminated card in my bag; Sunrise compass bearing on one side, Sunset on the other. Index card size. Available from FotoSharp, 17650 1st Ave S no 521, Seattle WA 98148. ph 800 361-8341
micah_marty1
.
I usually use sunrisesunset.com. The monthly calendar printouts (under 'custom' option) are very useful for travel.
.
