roberto_watson_garc_a Posted April 17, 2001 Share Posted April 17, 2001 Of course they do, just wondering why I have´t read any women name in this forum, well maybe once. Or maybe they don´t care much about Leica talk, am I wrong?, the more I think about it the most interesting it seems. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

hoyin_lee1 Posted April 17, 2001 Share Posted April 17, 2001 Not the ones I've met. Showed them my Leica and they said, "Show me some photos." Women are definitely smarter. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
msitaraman Posted April 17, 2001 Share Posted April 17, 2001 The woman at this page likes Leicas...
http://www.photogs.com/manley/
But I daresay the very talented Tina Manley spends her time using her Leicas rather than chatting about them... tony_rowlett2 Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 My girlfriend would LOVE a Leica, as long as it has a "zoom" lens and "auto exposure" so she doesn't have to "think" too much. She likes cute photos of cute kids. Ah heck. I can't complain. She bought me a Noctilux for Christmas a few years ago. She said it would be years before ever buying me anything else, though! steve_hoffman Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 I don't know, Tony. From your picture, Mimi seems a mite more understanding than you make her out to be! She also is very expressive in some of your shots. Great B&W work! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ray_moth Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 My wife is fond of using my R8, even though she takes excellent pictures with her own Olumpus Stylus Epic. She thinks the R8 feels and sounds like a camera she can trust. I only wish she thought the same about me! ;-)
Regards, Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mike dixon Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 Are you asking if women like using Leicas? Or are you asking if Leicas are babe magnets? Well, the answer is yes either way. But I've noticed that women generally aren't as interested in talking about their cameras (of any brand) as those of us with Y chromosomes. And I don't quite know how to break it to you guys, but Leica owners tend to be even more camera-obsessed than average.
I suspect that the chrome cameras might be better than the black ones for attracting the ladies. As a friend and I were heading out to cruise the gallery openings, I explained to him that the M3 with an old chrome Summilux (and lens hood) was the sexiest combination. He thought I was full of it (generally a safe assumption) until he saw the responses it actually got. [i'd like to note here that I take photos most places I go, so I'm actually using the camera. Its female-attracting qualities are simply a much-appreciated fringe benefit.]
The woman pictured below is one I met in a bar one night while out photographing (and drinking, of course). She asked me to take the photo and really liked the result (don't forget to get their phone numbers!).

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gene crumpler Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 Martin;
Hate to bust you leica guys, but I saw Mary Ellen Marks on TV a few weeks ago and she was using (are you ready), a Contax G!
FWIW Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
douglas_herr1 Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 I dunno about women in general but my daughter who is nearly a teenager has a healthy distain for autofocus and would rather use an R4sP than a P&S. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
djphoto Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 The very talented Tina Manley does indeed spend a great deal of time using her Leicas, but she also spends a fair amount of time talking about them on the Leica Users Group forum. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
wilhelm Posted April 18, 2001 Share Posted April 18, 2001 In that same interview MARY ELLEN MARK also said that her Olympus Stylus Epic gives as good pictures as her Leicas. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

gene crumpler Posted April 19, 2001 Share Posted April 19, 2001 I personally prefer 6x7 for big enlargements. With this bit of whimsy, I will un-bookmark this Forum. Bye Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

frank_horn Posted September 15, 2001 Share Posted September 15, 2001 Do clothes make the man? All things being equal, the better dressed man will get farther. But do cameras make impressing the chicks easier? I've had many (cameras). My best, for comment, would seem to have been a Rollei 35s. "Oh, what a cute camera!" I'd rather be Brad Pitt with a Graflex than me with the Rollei 35s! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
tim_robinson Posted September 15, 2001 Share Posted September 15, 2001 You know the saying "it's not the camera but the person behind it" Thats what my wife is in love with not the camera. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
