Lenses will not fit on new M7

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new M7 and I discovered that my 35mm 2.0 ASPH and 50mm 2.0 ASPH will not fit on the camera body. These lenses fit on all my other M bodies, but not my M7. So much for quality control at Leica. Has anyone had a similar experience?

? what's a 50/2.0 ASPH

I never heard of an M lens not fitting on a new Leica body. All of

my my lens fit fine on my M7. In fact I have never experienced any M

lens not fitting on any M body. Doesn't sound very likely.

I respect people that give straight forward opinions and advice

like, "fix it." I think people are mean spirited to make fun of

Bryan or call him a liar. This place is almost like the LUG now. I

suppose I am inviting attacks now, huh. Bring them on.

Bill. Sorry, but Brian invited the comment when he said "So much for

quality control at Leica". No, quality control at Solms is far from

perfect, but a defective bayonet mount on a new M7 camera is outside

of the realm of believability to me. I think Brian is "funning" with

us. I jsut don't believe his post.

This is not the first time this has happened on this forum. There

was the guy who kept on posting (and had many including me believe),

that Leica was about to release a 35/1.2 Noctilux M. Turned out to

be a fake post.

Hey, nobody's being mean-spirited! Nobody ever said you shouldn't

have some thick skin to participate here. If I offended in any

way, I apologize. But I'm with Elliot.

Something is way wrong here. Bryan says the 90 and the 135 fit, but

the 35 and the 50 do not. What could possibly cause this scenario? I

will be knocked off my feet to find out for sure that this is the

case. The "50mm 2.0 ASPH" is strange, too. But it could be a simple

error. What next, "The 50mm 2.0 ASPH fits just perfectly on my M8"?

Bryan, you can see, the problem you face is pretty unknown here. But

there is nothing impossible in life ... Even you make small mistakes

sometimes - just have a look at your 50 mm lens - although only a

typing errror, maybe.

Somebody with more LEICA-experience should have a look at your gear.

Perhaps your dealer knows what to do best. If it´s a problem of

manufacture the LEICA service will solve the problem free of charge

for you. If your lenses are s/h and perhaps have dropped down in the

past (bent bajonnet i.e.) you/ you dealer will most likely have to

pay for the repair.

Enjoy your new camera and do not be put off too much about the

reaction here. Most people here just think, LEICA can´t be wrong.

Best regards

I do not remember which lens it was but on one of my M6 classics one

of my lenses would not lock in the bayonet. After careful

examination I determined that the lens was binding against the lens-

lock-button-shroud (which is *plastic* BTW). The shroud is bevelled

on an angle where it meets the body flange and this particular one

was not angled steeply enough, and the one lens was slightly fatter

than my others. A few quick strokes with a nail file and the plastic

shroud was no longer offending, and the lens mounted fine.

Strange lead, indeed.

Particularly because persons I wouldn't think that would over react

now seem to get easily over excited. Is it a comsequence of "you know

who's" annoying posts?

But anyhow: my very limited experience says that different lenses

could fit differently on different bodies for any brand; even in my

Leicas. Only that since all of my Leica things are old ('54, '57) and

used, I wouldn't extrapolate starting from their behavior but neither

would I think that Bryan's case is too strange or, at least, not

impossible. It seems to be a case of too tight mechanical tolerances

in brand new mechanical pieces; though unlikely not impossible

I.M.H.O.

No doubt: the Leica dealer should know better, Bryan.

Best of luck !
