In the latest Digital Photography Review Newsletter there's an article entitled "Sigma says its full-frame Foveon X3 sensor 'should be' ready 'sometime this year'."

While I wouldn't hold my breath, in light of the stop/go history of this project, the article is an interesting read.

Sigma says its full-frame Foveon X3 sensor ‘should be’ ready 'sometime this year'

Meanwhile, here's a recent image from a Sigma DP3 Merrill.

Very nice, mjferron. Is this a conversion from colour in PP or a monochrome from the camera? I find both work very well with excellent tonal range. What was your opinion or conclusions, having made the test?

Here are a couple of samples, from a DP3 Merrill, the lily from the camera in BW mode and the fern from a RAW colour file converted in PS.

Rick being new to the camera and not yet having Sigma conversation software this was a jpeg with the camera set to monochrome. I look forward to more experimentation. Having said that I am seeing a pleasing tonal quality that was easily achieved without a lot of post.

Rick right now it’s the only camera I want to shoot with.

I know that feeling... Have you download Sigma Photo Pro 6.8 ? While it's a little slow and clunky, it's very fully featured and, once you're familiar with it, it's excellent for processing the Sigma RAW files. I save the processed files as TIFs and do any further work in standard graphic utilities.

I did download the software and once I got use to the interface I found it not all that hard to use. Like you I save the files as tiffs and finish in PS.

DP2M, Raw, Monochrome conversion in PS.

Infinite detail, very impressive. I acquired the DP3M mainly for botanical work, as the 50mm lens and macro ability make it ideal for this purpose. The camera can produce almost 3D effects in some situations, with enormous amounts of detail. It's almost an insult to post reproductions on the web, as they really don't do justice to the originals!

Now I want a 1 and a 3 to compliment my 2.
