EOS Lens Hoods; In general and 50 1.8 Mark I specifically

Anybody know where I can find a chart that lists which lens hood fits which EOS lens?

<p>

Specifically, I'm looking for a lens hood to the original 50 1.8 lens (metal mount, distance scale). According to a comment in the static pages (yes, I checked there already) this lens takes the ES-65 hood; I've located a store with an ES-65 II hood. I assume that these aren't the same, but I can't get to the store to try it myself.

<p>

Please, no guesses -- anybody know for sure?

I have a Canon EOS <i>System</i> catalog, circa 1995 (though I got it

last year from a local shop) that has the complete (as of that

printing) line of EOS lenses, specs, associated hoods, caps, and

cases. It does <b>not</b> include the new additions to the line,

butappears pretty much everything else is there. The Canon US website

includes this info for select lenses. If there's interest, I'll post

this on my webpage for reference.

<p>

This chart lists the EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, and shows ES-62# as the

associated hood. Substitute in your build number for the #. You may

need to call Canon directly to find one, though...

All of the Ex-65 lens hoods that I own (EW-65, ES-65 and ET-65 II)

have the same bayonet mount and physically mount interchangeably.

A lens which uses the ET-65 II (such as the EF100-300/4.5-5.6 USM)

can also use the ES-65 and visa versa, although flare protection may

suffer or vignetting may occur. Ask the store owner to mount the

ES-65

II hood on any of the following lenses:</P>

<UL>

<LI>EF 28/2.8 (EW-65)</LI>

<LI>EF 35/2.0 (EW-65)</LI>

<LI>EF 50/1.8 (ES-65)  out of production</LI>

<LI>EF 85/1.8 USM (ET-65 II)</LI>

<LI>EF 100/2.0 USM (ET-65 II)</LI>

<LI>EF 70-210/3.5-4.5 USM (ET-65 II)  out of production</LI>

<LI>EF 100-300/4.5-5.6 USM (ET-65 II)</LI>

</UL>

Thanks for the help. As it turns out, one of my local stores found an

ES-65 in the back of the store. The wrapper looks kind of old, but

the shade itself is brand new.

A lens/hood chart would still be nice to have for us cheapies who like

to pick up used older lenses......

Yes, both ES-65 and ES-65 II will fit the EF 50mm f/1.8

<p>

This answer is from the EOS mailing List:

http://www.psych.helsinki.fi/mailman/listinfo/eos

<p>

You could always refer to the EOS magazine "EOS System" guide:

http://www.eos-magazine.com/System.html

or to Erwin Harkink's "Canon EF lenses technical data" web page:

http://www.mountside.nl/people/erwinh/photo/eoslenses.html

which lists technical details and hoods for lenses. Unfortunately

there is an error in the EOS System guide for the EF 50mm f/1.8 hood

:-(
