Cord for Godox X2T-N. Do I need it?

I am using Godox X2T-N on Nikon D850 as trIgger for 2 off-camera flashes that are attached to X1R-N. The X2T-N came with a cord that plugs into the D850 9-pin socket.

If I choose not to use this cord, what functionality I loose?

9 pin socket? I think you might be missing a pin. ;)

The Nikon 10 pin socket has no functionality for flash. It's purpose is for remote triggering of the camera and passing GPS data into the camera. Along with two power supply connections. That's all as far as I'm aware.

So I'm guessing that the 10 pin cable just allows the X2T-N to be used to remotely fire the camera shutter (via Bluetooth maybe?), and has nothing to do with flash triggering.

YongNuo's simple RF602/3 triggers have a similar facility; allowing them to serve as either flash triggers or as a radio remote control for the camera.

P. S. Here's a pinout of the 10 pin socket with the pin functions.

The colours indicate those of the wires in Nikon's (expensive!) extension cable. And the TX data pin has no consumer use AFAIK. It may have been provided for service use, or for some function that's never been implemented.

Always appreciated,

charts! graphs! pin outs!

Thanks.

But it never ceases to amaze me how designers continue to re-invent the wheel when it comes to connectors. What was wrong with a mini-DIN?

Apropos of nothing: A rummage bin at the local computer shop recently yielded a cable with an RJ-45 (Ethernet style) connector at one end and a 2.5mm stereo jack at the other! What the..?
