Canon IVSB and lenses

Recommended Posts

I have just been given a camera purchased in Korea in the 1950's.

Looking in McKeown's 12th Edition 2005/6 it is a Canon IVSB.

lenses are:

50mm Serena f/1.8

135mm f/3.5 Canon Lens with finder

25mm f/4 W-Nikkor-C with finder

The last lens is not listed in the Canon section but appears in Nippon Kogaku section.

Is the 25mm f/4 unusual?

More research: this lens works well with the Leica M7.

M7 are expensive! Are they worth it for a casual shooter using this 25mm lens from the early 1950's?

The Nikkor is based on the Zeiss Topogon wide angle (1933) used for the Contax RF of the era.

Isn't the WWW amazing.

My canon IVsb & 25mm f3.5 (also topogon design). Enjoy.

I had a Zoom chat with KEH. At first I was offered $400 then it was upped to $600 This was for the 25mm, finder and Canon IVSB body. The 135 I am using on my X-PRO1 and the 50mm 1.8 will need a serious cleaning on one internal element surface, got it apart but not to that particular element, so off to a professional to complete.

That's nice to know. Thanks. FYI this is what a couple of accessories look like. Camera Holder (on camera - the lens as you know is the 135 and the finder is Russian) and the flash attachment that fit the rails. Well received. Do you know the filter size of the 135mm lens? It would be appreciated. Regards, Arthur

Thanks john_cooper|9. Yes, 48mm fits. Your advice was appreciated and valued. I hope you have not sold that camera, and that you will use it. It deserves it. Keep safe. Regards, Arthur.

Hi Arthur, I will be using it this weekend at a motorcycle show in Florida. I'll shoot some C41 color with the Canon and also use the lens on a Fuji XE-1 (16MP). I also put it up for auction on Ebay with a starting price of $2000. Don't expect a sale, but you never know. I could use the money for a car project, or even a new Apple mac studio.

The film results from this camera are bad. Looks like the shutter curtain has pin holes and is not acting right because the motorcycles were greatly overexposed. with film having a display of dots. At first I thought the film was the issue but the consistency of the dots points to the camera's shutter.

I liked the feel of the Canon IVSB so I bought a working model from Japan. I hope its shutter does not have pinholes.

This camera works OK at all speeds. I shot some old (in freezer) 400ASA C-41 film in my yard and had 2 prints made in a Noritsu at 12x18. They look good but I should have used a finer grain fresh film. I decided to sell this lens with the hope of getting a 53mm f/4 Super Angulon, for my not quite working yet, Linhof Press 70.

The following may be helpful to your lens purchaser. My Canon f1.4 50 series II LTM lens uses a threaded Canon 48mm SKY 1-A filter lightly screwed into the front lens mount. It is not necessary to screw it down very tight as there is sufficient thread depth in the lens front ring. Additionally I use a Hoya 48mm metal lens hood that screws directly into the threaded front filter ring. Again do not overtighten the hood into the filter ring, just use enough pressure to seat the hood on the filter. I've had good results using my lens on both a IIIg and and M3 with the ltm 50 to M adapter. If your lens is clean with little wear and no lens scratches, the buyer will be getting a really good f1.4 classic 50 lens.
