Overall this looks like a nice clean photo. That said, I am somehow uneasy with the placement of the objects in the frame.

  • The green field is perfect.
  • Not all pictures need to be level, but this one in my view does.
  • The composition seems to be centred around the red building but its placement doesn't fully convince me, in relation to the poles and the grey building in the foreground.
  • The truck is the "punctum" (Roland Barthes) of this picture.

I like this a lot. Simple and pure, vaguely remininscent of the hillside of "Windows" fame. I particularly like the nuance in the greens of the fileds surrounding the barns, and really like the red barn itself. The truck seems to add some dymamic(s) of some sort- I imagine the truck in motion (whether it is or not). "Farm country" is almost everywhere too, so this, in theory, could have been shot in many places, world wide. I like that sort of anonymity about the shot. It allows for an element of universal appeal, IMO.It doesn't "pigeon hole" the photo or pin it to any one locale.

It is, indeed, somewhat elemental, both in terms of composition and color. I think the truck helps maximize the sense of scale, especially to the landscape itself. In keeping with the elemental nature, almost in a similar way to a Rousseau painting, this achieves a kind of engrossing flatness, where the buildings seem to occupy a slice of a two-dimensional rather than a three-dimensional landscape plane. It’s also kind of funny that, so often, photographers dread a blank sky and how well that seems to work here in provoking a stark yet still inviting picture of this scene. Edited by samstevens

IMO the shot would be a lot “punchier” if the sky were pure blue. That said, I didn’t see the sky as detracting from the shot. To the contrary, I felt like there’s some balance in there, a counterpoint to all the color- and a compliment to similar tones in the buildings.

The overall color palette is super simple- green(s), red, grey, & white. This works really well to my eye, kinda punctuating the simplistic aspects of the overall composition.
