arthur_mcculloch2
So, I'm following up a suggestion from a previous post: so, is anyone interested in doing monthly 'pics of the month'? You know, go pros, etc, pinholes, geriatrics, etc, even ilford bakelite. I can do it each month, but will need some backup, when I'm incapacitated. Anyone up for it.? Let me know. howardstanbury
I'd be up to try this with instant photos, Instax or Polaroid.

mikemorrell
I don't (yet?) own a retro or instant camera so I won't have anything to contribute unless I buy one. And I can certainly see the attraction! I just want to mention that there are monthly 'Favorite image taken this month' threads posted and hosted by @mpressionz. These are (thankfully!) independent of the various types and brands of cameras & lenses. All PN members are of course completely free to start and contribute to new threads in any forum and I completely understand that it might be valuable to share (specifically) Instant, Instax or Polaroid 'pics of the month'. My impression is that some 'equipment' (brands, technology) forums primarily discuss equipment. Others host regular (weekly/monthly) 'photos taken with this equipment/brand' threads. This is just my personal opinion (and I equally respect those of all other PN members) but I sometimes wish that there were fewer 'equipment-specific' photo-of-the-week/month threads. Yes, I probably should subscribe to more equipment-specific forums that regularly post 'photo threads'. Maybe I'm completely wrong but I've never believed that - in general - the perceived visual quality of a photo (at least viewed on a screen) is determined by the technology or brand of a camera. Of course, there are many exceptions (for example wet-plate or pin-hole). But each technology leaves its mark on photos that for me just adds to the charm of viewing them. So my point is just to consider the plusses and minuses of creating specific 'pic of the month' threads for instant, Instax or Polaroid photos vs. including these (with a mention of equipment used) in the more general monthly 'Favorite image taken this month' threads. steve_gallimore1
Agree with Ludmilla, one of the attractions of the "gear" threads outside of No Words is the opportunity to chat with like-minded people. I'd be interested in participating, though 99% of what I shoot on instant film is family stuff which I won't post, might persuade me to try some other subjects though! One of the biggest attractions of instant prints is their physical, tangible nature, which is really, really hard to convey once scanned, be interesting to see what people come up with there. Don't have a GoPro, but I do have an old Fuji MX-2900, thing is, it actually takes rather good pictures! Bakelite film cameras with interesting lenses and limited settings, got a few of those... There is naturally going to be some cross-over with "Classic Manual Cameras", but I don't see that as an issue. I'm assuming that this would be a friendly, informal thread with no strict rules on what is and isn't allowed? Monthly sounds about right, maybe even every two months, depending on participation? Happy to help out in any way I can.
richard_
years ago we had a weekly one and you could post your pic(s) from any time period. It had a good start but eventually died after about a month or so. Part of the problem I think was the pressure of it be weekly. So, maybe monthly would be better. (Personally, because of the Pandemic haven't recently done much in this area).

arthur_mcculloch2
Power to you. Lovely. Damned with faint praise, JDMvW, and a challenge. I'll give it a run. See where it goes to. I've just embarked on pinhole cameras. Now, that will be fun. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1)
JDMvW
Lovely. Damned with faint praise, JDMvW, and a challenge. I didn't intend it as either faint praise or as a challenge. It was merely my way of saying it would be nice if someone did it, but I'd not be the first:rolleyes:
JDMvW
I thought I had. I neglected to account for the ultra-subtle nature of P.net commentary. Then why didn’t you say that? Eh?
