Sanford
I have a browser set to delete all history and cookies on log out. Still, I get numerous camera ads on some pages (plus a few related to "Older Americans"). Not that I mind, just curious as to how they might know. Tony Parsons
Have you tried Incognito browsing, or a VPN ?
Sandy Vongries
I take various precautions, but am sure a great deal is known and recorded about my interests. I suspect just the age / demographic of camera photographers is sufficient to link you to Older!
Dieter Schaefer
Running an adblocker so I don't know what ads are being served. Plus have changed some setting to avoid "personalized ads".
httpwww.photo.netbarry
All of the above, ad blocker and VPN's, but still when I go to certain sites like amazon, they will have a product I even looked at or bought. But at least I'm not getting those back at me on unrelated sites. Dieter also has a good point that you can change your privacy settings. It can stop you from viewing content on some sites like some news and sports outlets so you have to decide if you want to allow adds on that site to see the material. Ed_Ingold
Ad blockers have been known to sell. user info to advertisers.
za33photo
Internet Global Surveillance and Monitoring is still very much alive and well , both by Governments and "Big Business". I use various counter measures which may , or may not be effective. My Firewall is set to allow only a few OUTGOING communications , INCOMING communications are a bit harder to block , I also use an "addblocker". But I am quite sure that almost everything that is to be known about me is probably already known. Be as carefull as possible , and avoid "social media" as much as possible , this is all we can do.
paddler4
I use a reputable ad blocker and disconnect.me in my primary browser. I use is Firefox as my primary browser, which is quite good in terms of security. I also avoid Google Chrome like the plague, as it is a known problem in terms of tracking. (See https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/06/21/google-chrome-has-become-surveillance-software-its-time-switch/). Those steps take care of most of the problem. I don't find that using a VPN has much if any effect on this particular problem.
Niels - NHSN
I don't find that using a VPN has much if any effect on this particular problem. If you select a VPN server in Mexico you can have camera ads in Spanish.;) 2 Niels
don_essedi
I'm a linux user and Firefox with the UBlock Origin addon. I'm satisfied. I don't do social media at all. Most of my browsing is photography or regarding some obscure historical event. Edited January 13, 2022 by don_essedi
JDMvW
I've used some of the more robust ad blockers and hardly every see any ads at all, and certainly not on P.net I have set the parameters to block auto play video, but I scrub all cookies when I shut down, and they reappear. Fox News REALLY wants you to see those things!
