What camera(s) are you using this weekend?

Recommended Posts

Nice set, Rick. All that's missing is the ever ready camera case and the original box. Now that I search my memory I believe that my family's camera shop did have one of the tele/wide sets in stock. I never got around to trying it out, though. The last Electro 35 GSN we sold went to an uncle of mine in nearby Starkville who was a retired professor and researcher from Mississippi State University. He had a steady hand so he took available light photos and never invested in a flash. His wife (my aunt) still has the camera, but at age 95 she doesn't take photos.

I've been busy cleaning and calibrating a FED-35 28mm f/4.5 for someone so haven't really had time to go out and shoot properly last weekend.

Managed to get one shot of my nephew with that Kiev-88 that's still loaded with the same roll from last month.

Picked up another 35mm bulkloader and 50' of Rollei Retro 80S that I'm aching to play with.

Unfortunately the weather is keeping me holed up insided for now. If I do get to play around with a camera it'll be the Kiev-88 and maybe a Barnack like the Leotax or the Nicca.

The Konica S2 got put on hold while it gets some new light seals for the back door. They were looking pretty frayed and no point in having a disappointing light-struck first roll, right? I contemplated the Canon 7, but my beloved Contax IIa called out to me... after three and a half decades together still my favourite 35mm camera, I must admit.

In company with my favourite meter these days.

Choice of HP5 or Delta 100 TBA depending upon weather conditions.

Fiddlefye,

Once that Konica Auto S2 is sorted, you'll love that camera. Superb lens, and the best parallax compensated view/rangefinder you'll see on a camera not a Leica M2 or M3. I say this as a Leica and Contax fanatic. I have a Kodak Retina IIa on it's way to me, hope to run a roll of Fujicolor Superia 400 through it after exercising the shutter. Schneider Xenon, here I come.

Just before Christmas I found this early 60's Nikkor-P Auto 10.5cm at my local camera shop - in the original plastic hard-case.

I already own the Nikkor 105/2.5 Ai and don't really need another short tele, but curiosity got the better of me.

The Nikkor-P 10.5cm 1:2.5 is a different optical design (Sonnar derived) from the later 105mm 1:2.5 (Xenotar derived).

The design changed during the Nikkor-P production around 1970. The easiest way to tell the two designs apart is to look at the rear element (the Sonnar is smaller). Some say that all silver nosed Nikkor-P 10.5cm are Sonnar - it corresponds with my observations but I don't know for certain.

The weather is great and I can try the new lens out with some Kentmere 100 film for a change.

Have switched over to black & white for the winter, and since I don't do much macro photography this time of year will be bringing along a rangefinder, the Kiev 4AM with Jupiter-8M, loaded with Agfa APX 100. I only have the standard lens for this camera anyway.

On walks I've come to like the simplicity of just using a standard lens, especially with this camera as the bayonet mount is fiddly to use.

A shoe-mounted meter also works well with this setup, though I no longer have one.

I've made a resolution to try and use Medium Format more in 2022. Constant use of 35mm cameras makes me lazy and I'm diving in the deep end today with this Mamiya 645 1000s fitted with the Mamiya Zoom ULD C 105-210mm f/4 lens. It's not a lens I've used very often and I've never used it with the Tele-Plus, as that would probably take me into tripod territory, a land I rarely visit.

You have a nice set, Chuck! The lens mounted in this VXIib is a Pancolar 50/2, the long Zebra one on the right is a Sonnar 135/4, and the lens on the left is a Flektogon 35/2.8, which I like a lot. I believe that I also have a Tessar somewhere, along with 28mm and 100mm third-party lenses.

Over the holidays, I restored a Konica FT-1 Motor. They are nice SLRs but many are no longer functional and as such can be found for cheap. This one was in nice cosmetic shape but the shutter release and self-timer didn't work, and the meter was 3 stops off.

The issue is that the camera's flexible printed circuit (FPC) connectors attach to the circuit boards by clamps padded with a rubberized material, which over 35+ years can deteriorate into a sticky mess. Fortunately, a Flickr user has done a good tutorial on the subject. After cleaning the four connectors and replacing the padding with strips of non-adhesive silicone tape, the camera now works as it should and even the meter is accurate again. Hope to have some test photos soon.
