W/NW 2021 Pic-O'-The-Week #50

Apologies for being a day late, it's been one of those frantic weeks... so, welcome to Week 50 of the Leica and Rangefinders W/NW Thread!

Here's a view from Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.

Leica M240, 28mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M (Version 3)

My shots are of the Christmas 'break up' of our 'welcome place': a group who meets once a month for card games, scrabble, carpet bowls, etc, and then lunch. It was held a few days ago. Happy snaps. All with my monochrom and go to 75mm lens (I did some shots with a IIIf using a russian copy of a 50mm lens, but have not used up the film yet)

And Ray, a good friend, who loiters in heaven's waiting room, still bright of mind, but frail of body.

It is fascinating. We are all old here. But women outnumber men at about 9:1. Perhaps a feature of mid last century when women married older men, or perhaps just the reality of actuarial tables - men die earlier than women.

Leica M3, Summicron

And here I am a couple days late. Nothing recent, haven't exposed any film in the Leicas in ages. So much to scan that I'm hesitant to add more to the back log. Have been using a little X-100 series camera when I occasionally go on a local walk about so have gotten lazy. I always enjoying browsing the weekly photos even if I'm a sparse poster myself. Besides the interesting stuff was what I shot long ago while off wandering in some place far from home.

Where about are you located Arthur? I lived in Sydney for a while while doing research at the uni, once in Waverly, another time at Coogee. I have memories of the great pub fare at the later. More recently my work in oceanography resulted in several trips on on large container ship sailing between Canada and Australia. The shot under the Harbour bridge using a 3f and 5cm Elmar was on one of those trips. Closer to home, the B&W photo with added colour was shot in the Eastern Rockies using an M4 50mm Summicron with orange filter. It's what I used as a card in past years,

Hi GlennS. I really like the second shot. I can see why it became a card - yes, quite exceptional. Brought back some memories for me. Spent a number of months in Vancouver with the IRB, as part of an academic frolic on refugee law, back in 2002. The highlight for me was driving on the Icefields Parkway to Banff (October), and pulling over to take a shot (every time you looked, there was a photo opportunity), only to plough into snow, and having to climb out the door window. Fortunately, a good citizen, who had a shovel, and seemed far better prepared than me, undertook a rescue of my vehicle. And of course, Osoyoos ice wine. Vancouver was magic. Stayed in an apartment overlooking Stanley Park. I discovered people lived in there, camping out. I also discovered the hope in shadows calendar, from people in the eastside.

I live in Wingham, a small rural village on the mid coast of NSW, just a few k's west of Taree. I call it sleepy hollow. But I have lived in Sydney, Kensington, then Leichhardt, with some frolics in England - my father hailed from Aidre, a small town between Glasgow and Edinburgh - before moving to 'the bush'. The best view I now have of Sydney is the one I see in the rear vision mirror as I leave.
