Can someone explain the difference between the EF75-300 and the EF75-300 USM lens? Pro's, Con's to not having the USM? Thanks in advance!

There's also a review of the Canon XX-300mm family on the photo.net nature

forum. One thing to remember is that the 75-300 USM is a

micro USM, not the really quiet ring USM. It's

still quieter, and it focuses quicker (IMO, anyway; that's probably

subjective). It doesn't give you full-time manual focus like the ring

USM, if that's important to you. There's an opinion that it's a

little soft at the 300mm end; I haven't found this to be a problem,

but again, that's my subjective view. I've been really happy with

this lens...

Beth, the only difference between the two lenses you mention is the

USM motor. That is it, the construction, the glass, everything else

is the same. The first lens has the typical micro motor found on most

lenses, while the second has the micro USM motor which is much quieter

and usually quicker. IMO, if you can afford it, spend the extra $35

and get the lens with the USM, I think you'll be much happier in the

long run. Good luck.
