What camera(s) are you using this weekend?

I am not sure I have the patience for a Barnack Leica. This weekend I brought out my 21mm which allows me to easily zone focus which makes it slightly more convenient to use.

It is a charming camera, and fun to use as a throwback to a userinterface invented 100 years ago, but ergonomically it is more a nightmare than a dream come through.

I've managed to acquire a tidy 90mm Schneider-Kreuznach f/3.5 lens for the Diax cameras. While I do have a copy, I've never been happy with it's performance, suspecting a degree of de-centering, so I'll be interested to see how this one performs. They just don't make lenses like this, anymore!

I've used a Werra Rangefinder last weekend: unfortunately this wonderful camera is in need of a CLA.

The leafshutter stayed open on some frames and 2/3 of the roll is completely overexposed.

A Fujica GL 690 worked perfectly fine and a M6TTL too.

Now using the Konica Auto S1.6 (big brother to Auto S2)

Loaded with Kentmere 100

That Konica Auto S 1.6 is a nice camera. I will be shooting with my Olympus 35 RC. My Fed 5B has shutter issues. I have Kodak ColorPlus 200 in my Olympus 35 RC.

To me the FE represents a high point in Nikon SLR design.

I SO agree! Actually; In 35mm SLR camera design if you ask me.

If I could only own one camera and one lens for the rest of my life, I would take an FE with a 35 or 28mm prime in a heart-beat - happy ever after.

This week I got my 1934 uncoated Leitz Summar 5cm 1:2.0 back from service.

This is the oldest lens I own. I already verified the improvements on my digital mirrorless - all the internal haze from decades of evaporating oils were removed and the front element polished, so next step is to see how it will perform on film.

It is actually a very sharp lens, but extremely sensitive to stray light, quite temperamental.

The old FILCA is loaded with HP5+.

The SUMMAR is a warm to neutral lens, with very low contrast at wider apertures.

But stopped down resolving power becomes very good.

The way it deals with shadow-detail (i.e. by not registering a lot of it) seems to enhance the 3D effect according to some users.

Use of a filter and hood is recommended ;)

This past weekend I took out one of 4 TLR's I bought in an auction lot not too long ago.

This one is a nice Rolleiflex 3.5 MX-EVS circa 1954 in good working order. I used one of my last expired Tri-x rolls (2013), and it came out nicely. Another one, a 3.5C (or E) with a Planar, had to take a trip to a repair tech unfortunately, a gummed up shutter.

Hopefully our total lockdown might end tonight and I'll be able to get out with this faithful old Pentax 6x7 that has really earned it's keep since I bought it second hand over 35 years ago. Other than a full CLA shortly after I acquired it, it's had no servicing and it's had hundreds of films through it. These days, with the cost of film having increased, I tend not to use it as often as I should, and the big negatives are really rather wasted on internet presentation. However, I try to exercise the two copies I have every six months or so.

This photograph was really just a snapshot taken on the conservatory table using available light and a Sigma DP-2 Merrill camera. For those of you who might be interested in these curious little cameras, there's a thread displaying quite few samples from the Foveon sensors over on the Mirrorless Digital Cameras forum.

In six days West Point will hold its annual Prairie Arts Festival (none last year due to Covid). I will use the Nikon FE (likely with Tamron 35-70 f 3.5) loaded with Fomapan 200. For color a roll of Kodak Gold 200 in Rollei B35 (in belt case). Avoiding the camera bag or backpack so I'm traveling light. I haven't done much with the C35V (also pictured in earlier entries along with the Nikon and Rollei) so I might bring it along too. The festival ends earlier than usual this year with events and vendors shutting down around 2:00, but plenty of time for photos and eating lunch.

BTW, Rick, that's a great looking Pentax 6 x 7. One of the "ideal format" cameras (like the RB67 for example) that made getting 8 x10 enlargements so convenient. While I was in college (back in the 70's) I sometimes did weddings with another ideal format camera: the Mamiya Super Press 23.

Loading up some 20 film holders for my Anniversary Speed Graphic to shoot this weekend.

Might load up a Leica IIIc as well....or just keep it simple with a Leica M-E.

Got some film in the Leotax F and my Kodak Medalist, but those are probably staying home.

Very impressed that you have 20 Film Holders.. Do you hand hold the 4x5? I have recently loaded some cassettes myself dabbling in the GG . I only own 6 holders. I bought the Stearman tank and I am now trying to build a work flow. I have encountered some marks that I would blame on the holders. Googling tells me they might be related to pre-soaking the negs.. The next round I will go right in with the developer.

I've collecting them in small lots over the years. Recent lot had some corrosion damage, but they cleaned up well enough to use.

I have roughly 30 of them now, of various different types and makers. And a number of Grafmatics backs and Graphic roll film adapters.

I use a modified Paterson Orbital tank to develop 4 negatives at a time.

I only shot 28 sheets this weekend, all hand-held. Portraits mostly. Will share some once I've digitized those. ;)
