Nikon Wednesday 2021: #33

Note:
In the interests of balancing performance and quality, the topic of image file size and dimensions as normally posted to this recurring thread is under discussion elsewhere in the Nikon forum (the topic is obvious when you look) - please check in there and comment if you have thoughts to share! That's the best place to talk about that particular topic. For now, consider keeping uploads no larger than 1600 pixels on the long side when it matters, and sticking with 1000 pixels when the image feels no pain at that resolution. On data size/compression, try to keep things under 1mb, shooting for 600kb when you can stop there. Note that
this includes photos hosted off-site
(at Flickr, Photobucket, your own site, etc). Are you
new to this thread?
The general guidelines for these Wednesday threads are
:
. For now, we're sticking with 1, 2, or 3 images per week as you see fit.

Continuing the with the long, long tradition of photographers taking pictures of their own equipment, here's my very useful Nikon 200-500 mounted on a new Sony cinema camera. In this shot, it's using an APS-C-friendly Metabones F-mount to Sony E-mount adapter, which is why you see vignetting in the monitor. If I tell that camera to use Super 35 (close to APS-C) capture, it fills the frame, but I'm losing the 4K resolution. Tomorrow, I'll be trying a new adapter from Fotodiox which should let my Nikon lenses project a full image circle onto the full sensor, and still allow the Sony camera to control aperture, even on my no-aperture-ring-having newer Nikon glass.

I know this ain't a Sony forum, but man oh man the FX6 is an amazing video body. In this shot, it's "rigged" within an inch of it's life for external recording/monitoring, on-camera Sennheiser shotgun mic, big external brick of a lithium batter, and a special Zacuto tripod plate that allows me to quick disconnect from the tripod and go right to shoulder-mounted shooting, news-gathering style. Video is... complex! And not cheap. I'm very happy with the video I can get from my Nikon Z6, but sometimes, it's just not enough tool for the job. So: this is official permission to post indulgent images of your own camera gear! Once a year, it's allowed :-) In this case, grabbed this shot with the trust D810, and throwing light around the room with some fully RGB adjustable Aputure LED lights.

Earlier this month, there was an air show over the skies of southern Helsinki. It was a bit surprising that they'd choose to have it there as in 2017 they had 140000 spectators, which is a good number ordinarily but given the current situation it would be quite problematic. I went the previous day as there was a rehearsal and not many people were aware of it, so there was plenty of space to park my tripod. The performing group here is Patrouille de France. D850, 300/2.8, f/5.6, 1/3200, ISO 640.
