What time is photo.net on?

Recommended Posts

As someone flying airplanes between continents for work, I can't even begin to imagine how messy it would be if we didn't have universal time.

As someone born and raised in NY who occasionally writes tongue-in-cheekily, I can’t imagine a world without a sense of humor

… or emoticons that hint at such. :)

It is tradition for Unix and Unix-like systems to run the hardware clock at UTC, and for Windows

to run the hardware clock in the local time zone.

That complicates dual-boot systems, though.

Otherwise, don't forget the UTC has leap seconds once in a while.

The leap second applied to all time zones and it's like once in 37 years or so.

When you look at the clock on UNIX systems, it will tell you how late it is in local time.

Very usefull, to know what time it is in local time.

Dual boot systems are not bothered by the difference in OS.

If I remember correctly GMT was started by the British for ships to have a reference for calculating longitude. The difference between GMT and local time was used in the calculation. A coronagraph on the ship was kept on GMT. Several years ago I had an interesting discussion with a navigator on a B52. I asked him what if GPS went down, and he said the U.S. Air Force still trained a small number of navigators to use celestial navigation.

PN is on my time for me, eastern US. I'm just going to guess that PN might be on your time in your part of the world.

When I look at your post, it says "25 minutes ago", which is right in any time zone.

The site clock will tell you how many minutes ago a post was made for the first hour only. After that, it will tell you the specific time it was made. That time will come up in whatever time zone you’ve chosen in your accounts choices or whatever the default time zone is if you’ve not chosen something or are not logged in.

MICHAEL,

Does the ability to edit a post expire after 15 minutes or ?

And if so can you change that?

It would seem essential to edit / update a listing.

Unfortunately we cannot make that change. If you have an issue, you can contact an Administrator or Moderator who is online via private Conversation, and we can Edit your material as needed.

And when i look at your response to Glen, Mickey, it says Today at 12:19 AM.

Perhaps we have stumbled upon something here with time and quantum physics. Time in one part of the world changes exactly like time changes elsewhere. Very much like quantum particles such as Bucky Balls exhibit quantum entanglement - Time can be in two states and each state will behave and change as the other time state! Eureka!

I believe it is ten minutes.

And if so can you change that?

No I cannot, nor can any other Moderator/Administrator.

It would seem essential to edit / update a listing.

Rarely necessary. Originally Photo.net Forums had no edit time. It is still in the T&C accepted at membership that each is responsible absolute for what they publish and will stay archived as is. Regarding Sandy's comment in Post #48, the 'as needed' are key words: in simple terms there would need to be a breach or most serious extenuating circumstances for editing. It does not happen 'on request'.

Notwithstanding that, obvious typos and missing or wrong negatives (e.g. removal or insertion of not), are often corrected as we see them.

There are several discussions in Site Help Forum outlining the history of the edit time.

That's grand, though I doubt any moderator or group of moderators could keep up with all the missing or added apostrophes in its/it's, the numerous switchings of then and than, or the too-often seen lense. :)

Hilarious... please don't start a list - though you've nailed three top sellers.

BTW, on more metered note, I believe I have never corrected any spelling or grammar mistake: my view is that would be moving toward impudent.

Also, we do need the colour, of those who spell it color.
