Please see this discussion for more details: Alternative weekly thread in Nature forum

Each participant please post no more than just one image per weekly thread. Many members will appreciate any information you are willing or able to provide regarding location, shooting process, exposure settings, equipment, and information on the subject(s), including scientific and/or common names.

Utah Prairie Dog (Cynomys parvidens) checking things out from behind the top of his burrow diggings. This colony is located near the lodge at Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah. I spent about two hours attempting to capture good images of these critters. They are harder to photograph than I had imagined. They move from place to place underground, popping up unannounced and ducking back down again. When they make their chirping warning call their whole bodies vibrate at very high frequencies, making for motion blur even a high shutter speed settings. Now that I've seen these images I need to go back and try again with a few adjustments.
