Ricochetrider
I got onto Weegee's photography when John Zorn used his photo "Corpse With Revolver" for the cover of his Naked City LP some years ago. Some time afterwards, Weegee was featured in an ICP exhibition and we made a trip up to NYC to view the works. He was the 1st to keep a police scanner on hand, in his car, maybe?- and would often get to crime scenes ahead of police and other reporters or newspaper photogs. My first impressions of him were from his crime scene and NYC gangland killing photos, along with his documentation of poverty and slum life in NYC, Harlem etc. He did go on to do different things but I like this early crime scene stuff best. I was going to post a copy of the aforementioned photo, but in the end decided not to. It's easy enough to look it up- IF there is anyone among us who by now doesn't know Weegee or his works.
