Film Camera Week for May 28

Greetings, all and welcome to our new thread. Post all the images you like from any film camera. I'll start with a few from a roll of Ilford FP4+ that I processed and scanned earlier in the week. Camera was Minolta XE-5 with MD Celtic 35mm f 2.8.

1) 5cm f/2.8 (preset, M44). This is a sharp little lens, about the size of a rangefinder lens, taking 40.5mm filters. I assumed it was probably a Tessar copy, but the Miranda literature shows it as having a 5-element design.

2) 35mm f/2.8 (preset, M44), Another lens I repaired and re-lubed. It has a bit of edge separation, but it doesn't visibly affect images.

Inside Barn

Some from a Minolta Alpha 807si using 28-200 Promaster Aspherical LD IF f/3.8-5.6 lens. This is a re-badged version of the very popular Tamron Model 171D, a versatile and reasonably sharp lens that unfortunately exhibits annoying linear distortions at both end of the zoom range. The film was Arista EDU Ultra 100 developed in PMK Pyro.

To keep things moving I have few images made many years back with Maxxum SLRs with the Maxxum 28-85 f 3.5-4.5 (like Rick posted in the "What Camera are You Using this Weekend"? thread. I no longer have the lens, but do have some scans of some of the images made with it.

My first Maxxum was the 5000 and I bought the 28-85 to go with it. I did not buy a 50mm lens until a few years later,

Some may wonder why I no longer have such a well-made and high performing lens. Besides photos for fun of family and friends, I also used it with the 8000i and Sunpak AP52 flash for wedding photography. Unfortunately, the lens developed a problem common to some first generation Maxxum lenses: the electromagnet that controls the aperture would sometimes not engage properly and the lens would stop down to minimum aperture at the moment of exposure. Finally sold it "as-is" for peanuts. None of my other first generation Maxxum lenses (50mm f 2.8 macro, 28mm f 2.8, 135mm f 2.8, and 35-105 f 3.5-4.5) every developed that problem.

You've confirmed my respect for this lens, Mike, with that fine selection of images. It was a great era for Minolta lenses. I might have some photographs from it to post later today.

Here's a selection from a roll of Kentmere 100 I shot with the Minolta 7000i yesterday, using the Minolta 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. It really is one of the better short zooms. The film was developed in PMK Pyro and scanned on an Epson V800 photo using Silverfast software.

More color shots from my Practice LTL and its sweet Carl Zeiss 50mm f1.8 Jena Pancolar lens. Film was all Kodak- either Ektar 100 or Gold 400. I've made some effort to not re-post shots I've already posted, but please excuse any redundancies.

 

Not sure if I said it but until now I hadn't shot any color film in my Praktica LTL. An online acquaintance had offered to develop some Ferrania P 30 for me, and I wanted the rolls I shot of that f ilm to be the absolute best possible- so I shot it using the Voigtlander R3m with it's awesome 40mm f1.4 Nokton Classic lens. I had a few rolls of color film on hand and wanted to shoot it as well, knowing I'd have some colorful subject matter at these 2 events... so I loaded the LTL and boy am I glad I did. I love the way the Jena Pancolar lens rendered the film, and believe the character of this lens really shines both in the sharpness of the focus and in its background "bokeh".

 

I haven't ever put batteries in the LTL, so I don't even know if the in0camera meter works. These photos were metered either with an app on my phone, or perhaps also using the meter in my R3m which is pretty accurate in its own right. The end result is these reasonably well exposed shots.
