Basic Guidelines: In the strictest sense, nature photography should not include "hand of man elements". Please refrain from images with buildings or human made structures like roads, fences, walls. Pets are not permitted. Captive subjects in zoos, arboretums, or aquariums are permitted, but must be declared, and must focus on the subject, not the captivity. Images with obvious human made elements will likely be deleted from the thread, with an explanation to the photographer. Guidelines are based on PSA rules governing Nature photography which also cover the Nature Forum. Keep your image at/under 1000 pixels on the long axis for in-line viewing. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site at Flicker, Photobucket, your own site, etc

Each member please post no more than just one image to this weekly thread per week. If the information is available, many members appreciate information on your approach to making the image and the names, both common and scientific, of the subject(s). However, while encouraged, these are not required as a component of your contributions.

Photographed with a really looong lens, for obvious reasons, and heavily cropped in post.

Periodical cicadas are emerging here in eastern Pennsylvania. We found nymph casings and adults on foliage along the woodland edge. I found this one still molting Saturday morning. It was attended by ants, though I'm not sure if their presence was beneficial or coincidental. Birds are taking advantage of the extra food and soon fungi will move in. Soon we'll have a forest full of cicada song. It's all part of the big circle of life with nice photo ops along the way.

Amazing!

Thanks Mary.

I can't imagine why your excellent image would not be permitted in MIN. The heavens are most certainly nature. Back in the early years of MIN there were many celestial photographs. I'd love to try my hand at it but I can't stay up that late, or get up that early!

Trying out a new Nikon 24-200mm/f4-6.3 super-zoom in the Z mount. This lens turns out to be quite good on both ends and provides pretty decent macro capabilities: at 200mm, f11, 1/50 sec and ISO 200 on a Z6 ii body. I have additional images of this same flower captured with Nikon's 105mm/f2.8 AF-S VR macro. But of course, any super-zoom still has its limitations.

Indeed, one needs to stay up late unless the Milky Way appears early. I was thinking of the PSA rules that may not allow merged images. Thanks.

Ah, I hadn't considered that. The guidelines are more about staying away from human made objects than the crafting of the image itself. If PSA doesn't allow merged images, I imagine we can do so here. Knowing it's a merged image makes it even more impressive. There have probably been many merged images that made their way into MIN, we just didn't know it and concentrated more on the landscape/skyscape.
