I really had to rub my eyes when I saw the expected prices on these new Zenit lenses.

Maybe no accident on the anagram, but there are close historical links in personnel and machinery that followed the Soviet presence in eastern Germany in the late 1940s and the reparations (not just money and equipment, but people too).

 

At their best (and that was not always the case, tho' more often than claimed) the ex-Soviet lenses were actually worth as much as Zeiss, at least. That has been a great, cheap, source of lenses for M42, Leica, and Contax RF cameras for those of us willing to take a chance on them.

The Russian consider their products ought to be worth a lot more than the Chinese products.They proudly put Made In Russia on front of the lens. Something we don't see in recent years.

Strange set of retro and not-so retro designs. I can see why they feel they should charge the going rate. Whether it is the going rate for Russian optics is open to question though.
