Film Camera Week for May 14

Greetings, all and welcome to our new thread. Post all the images you like from any film camera. I'll begin with some images from a roll of Ilford FP4+ that I processed and scanned yesterday. Camera was Minolta XE-5 with lens noted in description.

Over the winter I repaired and re-lubed several Soligor Miranda lenses, including a 5cm f/1.9 PAD-type. This lens was apparently made by Kowa (having a "K" designation in the serial number) and is quite heavy for its size, being mostly of brass construction.

I finally got around to taking some test photos and was quite pleased with the results. The scans don't really do the transparencies justice, but they have almost a 3-D look to them. Photos were taken using a Miranda D and Velvia 100 film, processed by Dwayne's Photo.

The Model D is fairly common to find in the US and sells for reasonable prices (shown at top right with a M44 preset 5cm f/2.8 mounted). More samples from both lenses to be posted in upcoming threads.

Some from a Minolta Dynax 7 testing a newly acquired Minolta 100-200mm f/4.5 lens. I seem to recall l that Mike Gammill has expressed admiration for this odd little lens in the past, and I can only echo his sentiments. Beautifully made, lightweight and very sharp, it has a lot going for it. The film was Ilford FP4 Plus, developed in PMK Pyro.

Now that's a nice winter occupation, Dave. That Kowa lens is interesting, as Kowa made a 50mm Kowa Prominar-Miranda f/1.9 lens for the Miranda Model B camera, for release mainly in Australia. It's become somewhat sought-after by Miranda collectors and fetches high prices at auction. I posted some information on the camera and lens some time ago, and the lens looks similar to the one you have, and I'm wondering if they're actually the same lens.

Thanks for the link, Rick. They appear to be the same lens to me, which was available as early as the Model S. Kowa apparently made some of the early M44 screw-mount lenses too, as well as Fujita. Kowa still uses the Prominar brand name on their cine lenses and binoculars.

The Miranda Society of Japan (below) has some interesting information on these early lenses, though the translation is a bit choppy.

Miranda Camera lenses

A few shots from my first roll with a new experiment. A few years ago I picked up some blank boards for my Rolleiflex SL66 and last week finally got around to mounting something on one of them. This is the Taylor Cooke Hobson 5.15" (130mm) f6.5 Series III in a Bausch and Lomb phenmatic shutter that formerly resided on a J. Lizars "Challenge" rollfilm camera from circa 1900. The camera was missing important bits and the film size is thoroughly obsolete so no chance of shooting with it.

The shoot was fun and I'll do another very soon now I know all's working and I have an idea of what it does and doesn't do. Shot on HP5, All shots at f11 or 16 as those looked to me to be the "meat and potatoes" stops for the lens. I did one shot wide open and it was not so hot, as expected.

F2AS, Portra 400 film and a few different lenses from the past two weeks. All scanned to DNG (raw) format via the Plustek 8200i scanner and processed in Adobe Camera raw.

More from the Konica 2B. It is quickly becoming my favorite user. Film was Foma 200 developed in Rodinal semi-stand.

A few more from a Minolta Dynax 7, this time with a Minolta 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. This was my first outing with the lens and I'm pleased with the results. The film was Kentmere 100 developed in PMK Pyro
