andrewbonner
I recently bought a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 VC to use with my Canon EOS 50e (Elan II), however whenever I try to take a picture the camera locks up and the battery indicator on the camera flashes. My older canon lens works fine. Is this an issue with the lens or a general compatibility issue with the camera, and can it be fixed?
Ken Katz
Try cleaning the contacts on both camera and lens. While Tamron was not the poster child for third party EOS incompatibility, it may be so. Try a google search on your lens and check with Tamron. If there is a compatibility problem, only a lens firmware upgrade can fix it. Does the lens work on another EOS body? My Elan IIE is the only Canon EOS film body I still own, though it has not seen a roll of film in well over 15 years.
JDMvW
What year was the lens released? Some early Sigmas and Tamrons only worked with older film, EOS cameras..... and are well beyond any re-chipping
