Getting Logged Out Often

John Seaman

Recommended Posts

In the past I've been accustomed to (rather lazily) not bothering to log out from photo.net, even staying logged in for several days or more. But during the last few days I'm having to log on frequently, having apparently been automatically logged out after perhaps two hours. So, has something changed on photo. net? Or could it be something at my end?

I have not had that issue, but anything is possible. Anyone else sharing John's experience?

I avoid cookies as much as I can, but I have all cookies I can, purged on shut-down. I restart every day first thing on my desktop, but I do sometimes leave my laptops logged in, but asleep. Those, I try to restart every other day or so.

It's the cookies that 'preserve' your log-in info, isn't it?

Most sites will log you out if you remove their cookies.

But there are other reasons for getting thrown off a site - many sites (think banks, for example) just use a timer and throw you out after a few minutes or so. Not sure whether or not that requires the setting of cookies though. I just cleaned out all my cookies (with the exception, of course, of those I choose to permanently keep) - and upon opening my browser again, photo.net has set a total of 17 cookies. Some are set to expire when the browsing session ends, others stay for day, weeks, months, or even years.
