FluCard vs generic Wi-Fi card

Fellow Pentaxians,

I am making an assumption that the K3's FluCard includes a remote shutter feature.

Thinking of my older DSLR the lowest costs I have seen for shutter and Wi-Fi adapter is £4 + £17 respectively (probably similar numbers in USD or EUR).

What is the advantage of a Pentax FluCard over a generic remote shutter and SDHC Wi-Fi adapter?

Thanks!

I have FluCards for my Pentax K3's but haven't used them much. I found it difficult to maintain a connection, so not worth the bother. For what it's worth, you can release the shutter remotely with the FluCard when the connection is working properly. One other thing--don't leave the FluCard in the camera when you're done shooting with it since it will continue to drain the camera battery as long as it is in the camera.

Sounds similar to the generic ones. Apparently Transcend made a SDHC Wi-Fi card, and there are unbranded Chinese ones with negative reviews on the software - such as not maintaining connection, having few functions, and so on.

My guess is that packing a whole Wi-Fi router into an SD card requires a low-powered weak aerial?!

Generic cards were not delivered:(

I have now tried a FluCard and it's a bit rubbish. I can connect to the FluCard from various up to date browsers on my Mac, but the Remote Capture screen does not display all the options claimed in the manual. Furthermore, once started, I am not presented with an option to turn-off Remote Capture. The manual does say that FluCard will not work with all browsers. Has anyone used it with browsers released in 2021?
