JDMvW
In recent news, I, on a glance, misread loon instead of icon. here is a US Navy "loon" at Udvar-Hazy (Republic-Ford JB-2 - Wikipedia) "Talent on loan from Peenemünde" What kind of loon or icon do you have pictures of? o_O Edited February 20, 2021 by JDMvW

Bill Snell
When I was a lad (1944) I lived in "Doodlebug Alley" and I still remember being woken by a loud whoosh as one came down and the windows being blown in. Needless to say I was just about under the mattress by then - coward that I am. I built this one from a kit.
rodeo_joe1
You probably can't get more iconic than a tombstone. Sorry to darken the mood!
Karim Ghantous
When I was a lad (1944) I lived in "Doodlebug Alley" and I still remember being woken by a loud whoosh as one came down and the windows being blown in. Needless to say I was just about under the mattress by then - coward that I am. I built this one from a kit. Wow man. I'm a big WW2 'enthusiast' for lack of a better term. It's easy for me to say, but that seven year period feels magical to me. I bet you were not thinking that in 1944, though. I've been studying that war for over half my life. I have a b&w optical print, made many decades ago (don't know exactly when) of the, uh, iconic photo of St. Paul's framed by smoke. I almost met a German photographer who was close to Hitler in some way, but I got to see a few of his personal prints. You probably know very well about aerial reconnaissance and the use of stereo photography. I found it interesting that the Germans had better technology but the British had better technique (and Enigma...).
