mike_halliwell
I've used down shift for flower carpets, and it does give a unique perspective Would tilt make the scene all in focus too?
ilkka_nissila
Would tilt make the scene all in focus too? Shift doesn't affect the plane of focus; in the case of my image of icy rocks, tilt was used to bring the foreground and background in focus. Shift was used to include the rocks. I sometimes tilt the whole camera down to include foreground; it creates a somewhat different look to the image than shifting down. But it has the disadvantage that if there are trees then they will have keystoning. In this case I liked the camera leveled using the virtual horizon and lens shifted to include the foreground rocks.
Matthew Currie
I'm amused by Mark's transformer above. My favorite one has an embossed typescript label that can challenge a lens. One of my favorite sharpness tests, I once posted a similar picture in a lens discussion and was quite roundly roasted for the irrelevant subject. Whatever gives you a buzz, I guess.
