samstevens
You see, it's very easy to knock and name-call others without offering anything of substance to show you even have the vaguest idea of the subject at hand. To relate that to the photographic process, it's pretty transparent. "You talkin' to me?"
Allen Herbert
"ffering anything of substance to show you even have the vaguest idea of the subject at hand" Jeez, obviously you(;)) and Kant are above us simply folks, a superior form of humanity;) Lets have a look what he is actually saying rather than the words of a tax declaration....a honest declaration;) " Our perceptions, for Kant, bring us a representation and sometimes an enhancement and sometimes a restricted or even false view of reality. Photos can do the same" Holy Maceral Batman , I cannot believe photographs, sometimes give a restricted or even false view of reality., Deep thought man. Allen Herbert
Kant is a Philosopher and his thoughts go deep as he struggles to understand humanity. Sam is a surface skimmer, hence, my humor in responding. Hey, a debate nothing else.
samstevens
OK, I see you know nothing about Kant or are willing to offer nothing about him, which is what I surmised originally, so you have a good night and don't drink and drive. JDMvW
I've mentioned this before, but my wife had a huge Irish Setter bitch who would get two other dogs to fight, and then stand aside and watch. She was, overall, a swell dog. aside from this flaw. Why did I think of this, I wonder?

samstevens
Press the damn button already! pj, do you think the Philosophy of Photography forum was set up to be an aid in finger dexterity or is it possible another purpose might have been contemplated? According to at least one great button pusher, the most important part of the camera isn’t the button. It’s the twelve inches behind it. Regardless, pushing the button and philosophy/discussion aren’t mutually exclusive. Have a nice day! "You talkin' to me?"

Allen Herbert
Apart from the bit of banter, you interest me.q.g.. Moving Kant aside, my thoughts on Art, is not about the medium used, but about the creativity in medium .Regardless.. So, I see you as person putting Art in little confined box, to suit your personal perception. I find this weird. But interesting.

So, I see you as person putting Art in little confined box, to suit your personal perception. I find this weird. But interesting. A "little confined box" re anything you mentioned in your above (quoted) post, Allen? Now that is weird. Do explain. Meanwhile: creativity is not confined to art. It is a property (of just about everything we do), but not a specific difference. So creativity alone is not enough to 'define' art. A focus on creativity is a focus that makes you miss the essential bit. It's one little box you can't stick a label "art" on. What more, then, is part of that other thread. Focus, by the way, is not an imperative in photography.

It's one little box you can't stick a label "art" on"q.g There we go. Art, really belongs in a little box, that you cannot put a label on. The interesting thought ; who puts Art into that little box, that apparently you cannot put a label on? Art does not need labels, or, little boxes, it is universal, not subject to moiré, and cult of the few.

Allen Herbert
“He who is cruel to animals becomes hard also in his dealings with men. We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.” ― Emmanuel Kant. My favorite quote from, Emmanuel Kant. Speaks volumes about the soul of, Emmanuel Kant.
