Poor fine focus with canon 60D

I can't really help you with the focus problem other than suggest sending it in for calibration.

I do have an idea why the 60D does not have micro focus adjustment......

The 50D had MFA, and so did the 7D. When Canon later released the 60D, it was stripped of many features to allow a greater differentiation between the xxD and xD series of cameras. Canon realized this was a mistake so they re-introduced some of these features with the 70D, 80D, and 90D, but they never returned to the semi-Pro Magnesium alloy construction and form of the 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, and 50D.

You could probably find a used 7D body for less than sending the lens and camera out for calibration.

Or for not much more. Body only, the first-generation 7D in often sells for $250-$300 (which I discovered to my dismay when I thought about selling mine.) However, I think I would try the lens on another body first, just to make sure that it's not a different problem with the lens.

Very true and even as old as it is, you'll find the 7D to be an incredibly capable and customizable camera.

The 7D was a great camera, was like the Professional APS-C crop sensor camera. In fact going from the 7D to a 6D full frame was a let down in some ways. Fortunately I sold mine a couple years back before the prices dropped on them.

Lack of MFA was one of several reasons I sold my 60D to upgrade to a 70D, several years ago. That camera should be available secondhand now for less than a 7D and, if you prefer the smaller size and weight of your 60D have a look at it. Of course, the 80D and 90D would be better again - but at greater cost.

However, I agree with paddler4 that it’d be worth checking that it’s not a lens issue.

I have a Canon 60 D with a Canon EF 400mm 1:4 DO Is USM lens. I have never been able to get spot on focus from this lens and body. The 60D does not have AF microadjustment (why I don't know).

In the field, or under a controlled AF testing situation?

If only the former, there are many variables, ergo, possible causes.

More detailed information is required, if detailed advice is sought.
