Waiting for approval

Hello,

My account has been waiting to be approved for more than two week. Is it normal?.

Thank you

You are listed as member having joined today, and should be able to participate in site activity. Approval takes variable amounts of time, and is out of the control of the volunteer Moderators and Administrators. Sorry!

Welcome.

As mentioned, I also see you account as opened 12th January and not two weeks ago: uploading five photos and they being made public (not private) is required to trip the automatic process, however, it appears from my investigations that if photos are not uploaded at the the same time a new member joins, the automatic approval process can be delayed.

Did you upload five photos when you joined?

If yes then try logging out of the site and then log back in again, NOT using any shortcut on your computer. If no, then upload photos and try logging out again on consecutive days and let us know if that kicks the automatic system.

In the meantime you have access to the forums and other functions

Hello,

I am so sorry because I do not know what when I upload a photo it always appears private. I have deleted all photos and logged out. After that, I have logged in again and uploaded three photos. I did not used a shorcout.

Thank you very much . Sorry for the inconvenience

Not an inconvenience.

I think you need to make your photos PUBLIC.

When you upload new photos there should be an option to make either "PUBLIC" or "PRIVATE"

Anyway, keep trying logging out and logging in for the next few days.

How long does it typically take to get your account approved? I have 5 pictures on my profile. Is there anyone that I can contact to expedite the process?

The OP's account remains unapproved. I think we have established the process is broken. Here is a screenshot of my profile, which has had 5 public photos many times, and it also not approved:

The hypothesis that we need 5+ public photos to be approved is a non-starter: I select "public" at upload, and because my account is unapproved the images are automatically reassigned "private". I manually set "public" after upload, and because my account is unapproved the images are automatically reassigned "private".

Admin explained they are not part of this process, and none of us seem to know who is part of the process - maybe nobody is?

Thank you for that information.

I confirm I did (yesterday) log out and login again without using a shortcuts. It should have been a new session.

I also confirm there is no change in account behaviour. I set the photos to public, and the server reverts them to private (or does not save the edit).

Verified behaviour is the same in Chrome and Safari.

Worthwhile mentioning that "waiting for approval" does not place many limitations on user's activity.

That is not how psychology works. The old members have something new members do not. There can be a feeling of being cheated, unappreciated, unwanted.. those are tangible 'things' that can place limitations on the activity of new users.

You are treating this as a Priority 1 fault, right? ;)

When I first joined PN, I interacted only through the portfolio/gallery side of the site, commenting on others’ photos and portfolios and receiving comments on my own work. There was a lot of robust interaction specifically around our own photos. I empathize with your frustration since I know I never would have stayed here if my participation had been restricted to the forums at that time, which simply did not interest me much back then.

While the forums do offer a lot to members, I consider the “waiting for approval” situation, and the fact that no one with authority who interacts directly with the community has the power to change it, a major flaw, one that’s been an ongoing problem and caused much frustration. I find it hard to fathom why the owners of the site have yet to show any inclination toward or achieved any results in fixing it. It shows disregard at the helm of the site, unfortunately above the reach of the well-meaning and dedicated people we can communicate with here who do their best under trying circumstances.

I do hope your approval comes soon, not just to eliminate the feeling of being cheated but to give you all the many benefits you can derive from having a visible portfolio and sharing back and forth with other members about the photos in that portfolio. Though there are, indeed, many other features of the site, I’ve always considered that a key feature and, for some time, it was the key feature for me.

The comment was simply a statement of fact: nothing more nothing less.

If one researches the many threads concerning the topic of "Account Authorization" one will note that we, volunteer Moderators, have been assisting continuously and we share similar frustrations, perhaps more so in so far as we have been now for a long time working without Management support and communication.

As for me (i.e. "you") I treat my volunteer role here seriously and I believe I give as much time and effort that I can afford without compromising my Family and my Business responsibilities.
