Canon EOS ELAN Question

I have a Canon EOS Elan and I noticed the curtain inside the camera looks strange. Is this normal? I don’t want to put a battery in and play with it until I know.

If this is needing repair how bad is it?

Thanks!

Mike

Canon EOS Elan (EOS 100) cameras have sold recently on eBay for less than US$20, a few for less than $5.

While you're at it, you might look at some of the other incredible bargains in EOS film cameras, unless the Elan has some special meaning for you.

One of the best of them is the EOS-3, typically for under $100 and sometimes as low as $50. It's a super camera.

The EOS 3 is a great camera, but film cameras are getting popular again, and they are selling for about $200-$300 USD on eBay right now. A cheaper alternative might be an EOS 7 or 7N as they are full featured with ETTL, etc,, but usually sell for about $50-$100.

If you look at prices actually paid for items actually sold "right now", you will find my post to be accurate as of the time of posting for a "body only"

.

People can and do ask anything they want, but what the item sells for is the only significant 'value'.

I noticed you'd mentioned the EOS 3 was the last of the professional film cameras. I have an F-1, but is this a successor?

Well the true last of the Canon "professional" film cameras was the EOS 1v. It, and the EOS 3, however, were sold for a long time until they finally ran out of stock (well after actual production had ceased). The F1 is an FD-mount camera, and a very fine one at that.

By the way, since I think everyone is just burning to read more of my old posts, here are some of them on my fairly long obsession with EOS film cameras.

If I live long enough there will be another series on the EOS digital cameras, perhaps. Some of you may consider that to be in the nature of a threat, of course.

Thank you for your reply!

The camera has meaning in that my wife and mother got it for my birthday long ago. I haven't used it in a long time and it survived a house fire we'd had some years back. I was checking my cameras for batteries and came across this. Really made me sad to see. I did come across a YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSGqrW4kz70.

I have been thinking of trying this. You ever heard of anyone doing this?

I am intrigued by the EOS-3 information. I am wondering if I should actually get one of these for my collection. Seems nobody cares much for film cameras any longer and I do have digital ones (a Canon EOS 10D and 60D). The 10D is kind on on its last legs. I bought the 60D on eBay some time ago.

Thank you for the reply! I am getting great advice and feeling a little stupid as I am not sure of the different models (EOS 3, EOS 7, EOS 7N..). Why are is the EOS-3 more expensive than the EOS-7? Did Canon not used increasing numbers on better / later models.

Read my post to JDMvW and you can see some background.

Really appreciate all of you helping!

Canon generally uses smaller numbers for the better, more featured cameras. So EOS 1 is better than 3, which is better than 7, etc. Keep in mind that the EOS 1 has three versions and I would say the EOS 3 is more desirable than the older EOS 1 and EOS 1n. The EOS 1v was the last version and most people will tell you it is the finest film camera ever made.

Here is visual reference for all the EOS film cameras.

Yes. thanks for that table, mike. When you add in the different model names and numbers for markets in Europe, the USA and Asia, it gets even more obscure.

The mysteries of camera model number, however, are not limited to Canon, although Canon seem particularly obscure in how they number.

Not sure if it means much, but I sold my EOS 3 to KEH last February for $253. I assume they expected to resell it for more. Great film camera, but I simply have no interest in shooting film. Still have an Elan IIe left since the KEH offer for it made so sense to sell.
