What camera(s) are you using this weekend?

I HAVE to get out to take some photos this weekend.

It'll take some doing, though, because I don't know if I'll be able to walk much - I have peripheral neuropathy, in other words, nerve damage in my legs and feet. I always feel off balance when I walk, and lately my legs start hurting if I stand/walk for 10 minutes or so. A short walk around the neighborhood might work.

In any event, I'll most likely be shooting (briefly) with a couple of F2A's (which are for sale - see my Classified Forum posts if the photo.net search function works.

I look forward to seeing the results. A real beauty.

Too bad it is missing the 6x6 mask, and the never-ready case was coming apart as well.

In the 2010's I lived in Japan. I was all into Leica, and while planning a trip to a region where my wife and I could dig up bamboo shots (to eat), I realised the bamboo forrest would be moist, muddy and mosquito infested.

I had second thoughts about bringing my Leica and visited Lemon-sha, a used camera shop in Ginza, to look for a cheap used camera. Prior to Leica I was happy with Nikon and the cheapest Nikon at Lemon-sha was a FG-20 - but it felt very cheap and noisy.

The second cheapest Nikon camera was a brassed and dented black paint FE-2 with warranty for 11,000 JPY ($100) which I bought.

Nikon House (now closed) was located 100 meters away and I went to get whatever 28 to 50mm was cheapest.

I found this Ai'd 35/2.8 with a lightly scratched front element for 3000 JPY ($27).

Intrestingly this combination has become one of my favorite kit - and I will relive the experience this weekend with a rool of HP5+.

I’ll be continuing to try out my new-to-me Olympus 35SP.

An old favourite, the Konica Autoreflex T with the 57mm Hexanon AR f/1.4 lens.

The expired roll of Steky-Panchro was a bust.

 

But yesterday someone 'sold' me a crate full of cameras that included this beauty;

Voigtlander Bessa II with Color-Skopar :)

 

That'S a crate worthy find! The never-ready case can be stitched! I have the Bessa I (Voightar) and would love it to have a Skopar I have a Skopar on the eatlier Bessa... but I won't rob Peter to pay Paul that is I won't take the Skopar from one and try to mount to the other... then I'd have two mongrels!! Very JEalous-... please do post results!!

I neglected to post a photo of what I used recently: Minolta XE-5 and a pair of Celtics- 50mm f 3.5 MD Macro and 28mm f 2.8 MD. But here's a photo of what I'm using next:

Picked this up for 12 USD on ebay. Meter is accurate with Wein cell. Loaded with Kentmere 100.

Once again I will work with my Minox 35 EL to get to learn it better.

It has so many quirks that I have to adapt to, but the lens is really excellent, so I need to figure out if it is all worth it.

Loaded with the usual HP5+.

Picked up a refurbished Minolta V2 rangefinder and ran a roll of expired T-Max through it --- a very quiet and smooth-shooting camera with a very good rangefinder/viewfinder.

It's fitting to end the year with one of the finest SLR cameras I've used, the Minolta A-7, (aka Maxxum 7, Dynax 7). I sometimes think it's where Nikon should have gone after the F4... It's a superb creation, and I was so impressed I bought a back-up copy as a personal Christmas present.

The camera Gods have smiled upon me most graciously in the last months, first a professional Mamiya 645 Super dropped in my lap, and now a local widow is downsizing her life and gave me her beautiful Nikkormat FT3 with Nikkor F2, in excellent nik, with original invoice and handbook as you can imagine a fastidious lady might be. The focus is beautifully smooth, the light meter works. I will be using it this weekend, weather permitting. I feel very lucky to have such a pristine "Nikon" and I see now what everybody's been raving about all these years. .. I have toyed with the idea of an F2 before.... my fingers are already getting itchy!!

Used the old worn FE2 with 50mm 2.0 again this weekend.

I loaded it with Fujicolor C200 which I regretted almost instantly. There isn’t much color around in Scandinavia this time of year, unless you fancy taking photos of Christmas decorations.

I’ve had success in the past developing C41 film in BW chemicals, maybe I’ll try that again.

In an odd sort of way Christmas came early for me. My Contax IIa disappeared several years ago, much to my consternation. Of my rangefinder cameras it is the one I've owned the longest (since the mid-80s) and it is still probably my favourite. Today it appeared like magic in a box containing my Christmas decorations that my wife isn't fond of. How it got there I cannot imagine and my wife has no recollection of putting it in the box, but at least it is back and, apart from needing a good cleaning appears to be working just fine. Needless to say it will have a roll of film in it tomorrow!

I shall. Not being able to find it has become increasingly distressing as time passed. The timing of finding it was kinda perfect.

Speaking of elves... at the beginning of winter weather season I searched all through my car and the house for my snow brush. No sign of it, so I bought a new one. Overnight last week the old one just appeared in the open in the back of the car like it had been there all along. Still scratching my head over that one.

So now I can finally do a comparison between the 50 f2 Zeiss Opton Sonnar and the Jupiter 8 Russian copy I tend to use on the Canon IVs which I did not yet own when the Contax went missing. It should be interesting!
