I have the hot shoe grip on the way and was wondering if this was necessary so as to not have to move your hand off the grip. h_fiedler Posted October 18, 2001 Share Posted October 18, 2001 Yes they are useful when using the hand grip. I think there are 2 or 3 versions for different lenses. They also have inserts so they can be used with different lenses, but I don't think every lens is covered. I know the type "A" is for the standard 105 lens. william_gormly Posted November 1, 2001 Share Posted November 1, 2001 The type "A" focusing ring reportedly fits the 105, 135, 150 and 200mm lenses. The type "B" ring is for 35, 55, 75, and 90mm lenses. Pentax recommends that the ring be used to focus with fingers of the left hand at the same time they hold the grip. You can turn the lens with the ring only over 30 degres than your fingers are out of reach! second the lenses dont fit in the cases any more when the ring s are attached thirth it is very plasticy and will break soon when one would use it. rolf_strasheim Posted November 2, 2001 Share Posted November 2, 2001 I have found the quick focus ring to be a valuable tool when used with the 135 macro and any sort of extension- be it tubes or the bellows. It is indeed a hassle to pack but it really comes down to personal preference. The things are so cheap on eBay what do you really have to lose?
