What camera(s) are you using this weekend?

Recommended Posts

Morris, your Isolette has the fantastic Solinar and Prontor combo. Try using the self timer for the shutter release. I find the negs will be much sharper. . .less linkage vibration at shutter release. Do post ! Aloha, Bill

Bill, I always see warnings not to try the self timer on old cameras that haven't been CLA'd (mine hasn't) as it often leads to lockups and the like. Am I being overcautious? Will you swap mine for yours if it goes horribly wrong? ;);)

I'll be sure to post when the first two rolls and complete and developed. I may not get a full complement out of the first roll as I cannot see the numbers so am guessing how far to wind on. I don't mind, it's an old roll of Lomography 400 colour and I'm only checking for light leaks and suchlike.

First reply is "NO" !!!!

I would be cautious of the self timer (ST) if you had the Compur shutters. The ST is activated by moving the top mounted "button" and then pushing the cocking past the button. The Prontors are independent of the shutter lever. Never had the self times go wonky on my 5 Isolette 2 or 3s. For now, If the Isolette shutter release connecting elements are not472442429_DSCF6656ce.JPG.e79bfd4c53d22741beeaf9f20eee1359.JPG working, you can always push the release lever in the lower left corner to start the time. If the timer does not activate, VERY GENTLE press the ST lever back to its "home posistion".

All of my Iso's and Records had bellows holes, so all now have the bright colored replacements. Get that CLA ! Aloha, Bill

Thanks for that Bill, that's great to know.

I know there is a chap in the UK who provides replacement bellows at a good price so I have bookmarked his site.

I'll need to find someone in the UK who can do a CLA just so I can be satisfied that everything is as it should be. It'll have to wait till the new year though, I already have one camera out of repair/CLA (Yashica Minister 700) and that will eat into my budget.

Finished the roll in the PEN-FT last weekend, but haven't gotten round to processing the scans of the film yet.

No idea what I'm going to load-up next, probably something in medium or large format. I do have next week off so I will have time to go out and shoot....if there is any inspiration to back that up.

I have just cleaned up my latest acquisition. This is the fifth Nikkor lens I have acquired during COVID-19. It may sound obsessive, but I have rediscovered my appreciation of Nikon glass and cameras of the 70’s and early 80’s.

This Ai version of the tiny 20mm lens was produced between 1977 and 1981.

It has 11 multicoated elements in 8 groups! Kind of mind boggling when you think of the tiny size of the lens (reaches out 4cm from the mount) and also consider that much more manual labour was involved back then - thus it was understandably not a cheap lens at the time.

Still debating if I will use color or B&W this weekend.

Sorry about the double upload. I think I have it figured out. Better next time.

In addition to the cameras I named earlier I'm preparing to send my oldest son a mint condition Minolta SRT 101 to replace his 201 which has damage to shutter speed display in finder. (cat knocked it off the shelf) Also the ISO setting is difficult to adjust. He's getting a later 101 which has the multi-slot take up spool like the 201. It still has the mirror lock-up. However, accessory shoe is a "cold shoe". Meter is accurate with Wein cell.

Once the weather warms up, I hope to test this Zenit 412LS, which I picked up for $15 in mint condition including the Zenitar-M2s lens, original strap, and case. Have since re-sold the lens as I already have the K-mount version. The Zenitar is an excellent performer, BTW.

Introduced in 2002, the 412LS was one of the last M42 screw-mount cameras made, along with the limited-edition Cosina/Voigtlander Bessaflex. About 13,000 units were built before KMZ ceased SLR production in 2005.
