2fer
Just got my OM-2n back from being Cleaned/Lubed/Adjusted, and am ready for it’s next adventures. Nothing was really wrong with it, but I just felt it was time for a “tune-up”. While it was away, I ordered new leather body covers, and installed them upon return of the camera. It’s amazing how easy the old leather came off, all adhesive was still attached to the leather. None stuck to the body, requiring me to clean off any gunk. All I did was wipe down the surface with alcohol, and attach the new covers. Since I was never crazy about the original camera-back with the slot for the film box-end, I replaced the back with one from an OM-1md. Since the re-covering went so well, I also recovered my OM-1 (non-MD) that I purchased new back in 1972, so now they’re ready for my revived interest in film photography. hjoseph7
I have sentimental feelings for the OM-2. This was my first camera after I had to sell all my photo equipment to make ends meet. I purchased it used at a thrift shop in the red-light district of Baltimore. It came with 50mm Zuiko lens like the one shown. For a few years that is all I used. At the time I was taking a couple of B&W photography courses here : www.mica.edu , where I was able to develop my film(Kodak Plus-x) and make some prints. After a few years and when things got better for me, I traded it in for a Minolta 7000 because I wanted AF. 2fer
Hjoseph7....Thanks for the good story. I hope that Minolta 7000 has been good to you. It was a real pioneer of a camera, being one of the first offering a true AF.
SCL
I used a Pen in the mid 1960s, sold it and didn't give Olympus another thought. Around 1996, a missionary friend of mine spent Christmas with my family and when we discussed photography he mentioned he used an OM01, which I knew nothing about and assumed it was just another low end camera. Fast forward to 2017, and I had now read up enough on the OM-2n to get one and several lenses and another one. WOW, what a nice, versatile SLR. Even though I've divested myself of many cameras since, the OM-2n stays in the stable with occasional use, although its 50 macro lens gets much more use on my m4/3 body digitizing slides and negatives. Yours looks absolutely beautiful and having it CLA'd was a great idea. Who did you choose to do the work if I may ask? BTW, now that you've shown the beauty, you have to post some shots with it! 2fer
SCL Glad to hear you decided to give Olympus another try. I hope it allows you to enjoy shooting film again as much as I am. Although I’ve had the OM-1 for 48 years, the OM-2n is a fairly recent purchase for me, as I bought it locally here, including the 50mm f1:1.2 lens about a year ago from its original owner. He maintained the camera I in excellent condition but I wanted it overhauled due to its age, and while there are still experienced OM techs able to properly service them. Like you, I had been researching it, and liked the upgraded OM-2n features and the ability to choose an aperture priority mode. It’s great to have both the 1, and 2n models, allowing me to keep one loaded with color, and the other wIth B&W film. I had the CLA done by John Titterington, Leawood, Kansas. I’d definitely recommend him; he has a lot of experience with OM’s, and had a quick turnaround time. His price is very fair as well. I’m strictly a hobbyist, so keep that in mind when viewing my recent photos, all taken with my OM cameras here in the Pacific Northwest: Gary Zuiko 50mm f1.8 Zuiko 50mm f1.8 Zuiko 50mm f1.8 Zuiko 30-105 zoom f3.5-4.5 Zuiko 35-105 Zoom f3.5-4.5 Zuiko 50mm f1.
SCL
Looks good, Gary! Your 5th shot reminds me of a B&B I stayed at in Townsend many years ago.
stevenla
Does anyone know if John Titterington still services the OM-2n?
JDMvW
I rarely shoot with it any more, but my OM-1MD is one of my favorite cameras. Great looks and great function! What's not to like? My take on the M2 predecessor: The Olympus OM-1 MD - a 1975 variant on the classic.
