"Waterburst"

I need some critique on this picture. It's a picture of water in the pool at the bottom of a fountain. I highlighted the sunlight to the point where it looks something like 3-D (although that wasn't my intention, to be honest...I just wanted to try to get a clear shot of the sun reflecting on the water.). Anyway, here goes.

Intention or not, it works. Not at all unusual Amanda. Some of the best images are the result of happy accidents or experiments. This one for example. You may not have planned it that way, but the pebblegrain (don't know what else to call it) pattern (which I'm guessing is the bottom of the pool) contrasting with what looks like the central starburst like spout of water coming up from the fountain and the splashouts surrounding it (but mostly at the top) makes for a very interesting composition. Well done!

Thank you so much. Actually, the brown spots that you see that look like pebbles are pennies. :)

You see ? Throwing your money away again :):);)

A very interesting image - although I can see it is water, it also made me think of slo-mo film of a flower erupting from the soil - and unfortunately, Alien !

Keep experimenting - the results you post are fascinating.

I like this too and I agree with Tony on the 'flower' imagery.

I like the colors and the delicate 'softness' of this photo. You could also experiment with other versions (in post-processing) that have a more more 'punch' (sharpened, with more contrast). Because ' more sharpness' mainly affects the central 'waterburst', this strengthens the 3-D effect. Added contrast gives strengthens the separation between the 'burst' and the pool. The combined effect does make for a 'harder' photo. I think I prefer this 'soft' version, but it's worth trying out.

Congrats,

Mike
