Good light gimbal for Sony A7r3?

Recommended Posts

What gimbal do you have, or are looking at? Are you talking about a motorized gimbal, or something like a Wimberly head?

I have a DJI Ronin S, Sony A7iii and Sony 90/2.8 macro. If you can balance the camera, the Ronin S will work. I've set it up with a Sony 24-70/2.8 too. For convenience I installed a RRS Arca clamp and extended slider plate, which gives me great latitude for balance. The motors have more than enough torque. It is not light, however. I have a shoulder strap, and fitted it for use with a monopod. Otherwise it is like a steady-cam without the harness.

Most 90 mm lenses are smaller and lighter than the 90/2.8 macro. When using a gimbal, smaller and lighter is a good thing.

Most gimbals (of any sort) are designed for a lens with an Arca-style foot, parallel to the lens axis. If you need a lateral mount, RRS makes a couple of elongated plates with a lateral clamp built into one end for cameras with an Arca base plate or L-plate.

Thanks. I don't have one- I want one for video, so motorized. I'm currently looking at the DJI Ronin-SC. The 90/2.8 macro is not on their list of supported lenses, and I've only found 1 review that says they got it to work (although not perfectly). The SC seems like a good option, but I'm not sure. The Weebill S might be another option, but it also doesn't officially support my 90 mm lens...
