NIKKOR W 210 5.6 SHUTTER REPAIR

Hi everyone hope you are all well at this time

I have an otherwise faithful NikkorW 210 5.6 which has decided to jam up its shutter and is now inoperable.

I wonder if there are any common repair tricks or tips to be learned to release the jam. The blades still revolve freely through the apertures but the release lever is stuck fast.

At the moment in lockdown here in the UK its difficult to get anything posted or repaired.

The Copal shutter that Nikon use has an interlock between the preview lever and the release lever. So make sure that the preview lever is fully in its closed position, otherwise it'll prevent the shutter from being fired.

Anything more complicated will require the shutter to be opened to see what's wrong.

My 150mm Nikkor-W started to give erratic slow speeds recently, and needed a quick clean of the timing train. Opening the shutter is pretty easy: You remove the front cell of the lens, give a half-turn to the locking 'screw' and unscrew the retaining nut around the lens thread. Put a mark on the retaining ring/nut before moving it so that you can return it to its original position on re-assembly.

As long as you're sensible and keep the shutter flat with the front facing up, nothing should fly apart or fall out as you examine it. If you can't see anything obvious, then the best course would be to put it back together and take it to an expert. Or not take it apart at all if you're not familiar with the inner working of shutters.
