Distance scale on Nikon SB-800 disappeared

Distance scale? The SB-800 shows the useable distance range or distance based on GN and power, but it doesn't have a scale like previous SB speedlights.

Anyway. Check that the rubber-covered tilt/swivel release button isn't stuck in. The distance indicator disappears as soon as the release button is depressed, even if the head is pointed straight forward.

Otherwise it might be a case for using the two-button factory reset. Holding 'MODE' & 'ON/OFF' down for 2 seconds resets everything to factory default.

If that doesn't work, it sounds like the detector switch for head swivel/tilt might be stuck or faulty.

Yes I think so. Without that I don't have the GN mode of the flash but I don't think I miss it much.
