In Photos: An Outdoor World Emptied by the Pandemic

Interesting to see that until access was officially forbidden to several sites, some people were quite willing to risk their own health and that of others for non-essential reasons.

I don't see how you draw such a conclusion from the photographs shown. But for the first, from Bondi beach, all the 'before' photos were from 2019 or earlier. Even the Bondi Beach photo looks to be in compliance with the guidance then given - the vague less than 500 - and most everyone looks to be more than 6' from most everyone else.

In NL, May 4 and 5 are 'Remembrance Day' and 'Liberation Day' respectively. In the past both national and local events to mark these days have been attended by large crowds, especially in the 'Dam square' in Amsterdam. This year was of course very different. Nonetheless, King Willem Alexander's speech at the Dam to people watching live at home brought widespread support from the press and otherwise critical commentators.

Seems to me that many governments were slow to react to the threat. People realized the realities, dangers, and ramifications on an even slower track. To this day, many don't seem to fully grasp how contagious this virus is.

The image portrays people who appear to be in compliance and it is shot from the South end of the beach: but I question the resolve and professionalism of the editorial staff who published that article.

Here is a link to an image reported to be made on that Friday March 20th: LINK Comparing the length and the direction of the shadows in both images, it appears both were made at a similar time of day.

Here is a link to the article in which it that image was published: the publisher is the National Broadcaster/Telecaster LINK
