Canon AE 1 weird shutter-speed problem

Hi everyone!

I got this problem with my Canon AE1 that sometimes the camera doesn't respect the shutter speed: if I, for example, snap at 1 full second, sometimes can happen that the camera snap like it was settled at 1/500; also I figure it out that if I keep pressing down the shutter button for the entire period of time (like one or two second) the camera . When I press it normally (like you press the button and release it immediately) sometimes can happen that is not respecting the time function, but as I said, if I keep pressing it the camera does her job!

I don't know what could be the problem. Hope someone can help me figuring this out! Thanks!

Have you tried using a cable release? Just curious if its the tactile contact of the switch or if it might be mechanical (cable release) that is causing the issue. I suspect, however, it might be something as simple as dirty contacts.

Thanks, I Tried actually few days ago to just open up the top of the camera and give it a little clean. Now it seems it’s working fine and delivery every shutter speed! You might were right, maybe it was just dirty contacts!
