The catastrophe

Recommended Posts

In in the interests of documenting the present/coming catastrophe, I thought that it would be both prudent and judicious to keep a photographic memoir of the travails over the next several months. So I will start. Our 'pubs' shut down about two hours ago, along with most everything else. Here's some shots of the last patrons:

All blokes. I know. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. It would be good to chronicle the collapse of the world as we know it. What was that wonderful line by Christopher Bales in the early Batman movie: 'there's a storm coming'. Regards, keep safe, and look forward to the images. We have an opportunity to keep a record of the world, each from our own points of view. Apiarist1 (Arthur)

According to LensRentals.com (LINK), your camera should be safe to pick up again if you keep it isolated for 48 to 72 hours, depending. :|

I note that the characters in your bar look pretty much like the characters in my favorite bars in the Mississippi and Ohio Confluence area.

I don't have any pictures yet of this catastrophe, but here is an earlier one-- the 1972 Ohio river flood.

Yesterday, Trader Joe's was stocked to the rafters except for the beer isle. Out of my current favorite, good time to try something new. Didn't realize this was the Leica/Rangefinder forum when I posted the above photo. I used a Panasonic GF1, close enough I guess.

In PA the liquor stores are all state run, now closed. Lots of traffic across border into NY as there the liquor stores are private. PA Supermarkets are open and many have beer and wine licenses. Counties both north and south of us have active cases. When walking, people go in opposite directions and stay close to curbs and wave, no one stops to chat. I saw seven folks out walking yesterday afternoon with total of 5 dogs. Both getting lots of exercise. Kids getting lots of family time. I've been asked not to take any of their pictures.

Love the shots Arthur, will look forward to seeing your photos through all this. I've found myself going back through my photos for the last couple of years and looking for those that interest me now. Everything but the essentials are shut down here in California, but life is still going on, just ask Amazon, a huge windfall for them :)

Great shots.

Good therapy.

Head up.

Eye sharp.

Keep moving and counting Blessings as they come along.

Focus on the important things.

Exercise of Life.

Expand Gratitude.

This too shall pass.

For God's sake, keep safe Moving On. I would not know what to do if I lost your foil. Wouldn't know what to do. Keep safe. Regards Apiarist1(Arthur).

Thanks, barryfisher. Strange times, and, I suspect, even stranger to come. Whatever you do, keep safe. I think we have a chance as an international community of photographers to chronicle this, as much as we can, and to be blunt, not all of us will get thru this. A storm is coming, indeed, it's already here. Look forward to your photos barryfisher. We go to hell in a teaucup. Keep safe.

Good one JDM. Love it. Keep safe, you and yours. I won't touch the camera for a couple of days. Have you had many floods there?. Keep safe.

BUT in Illinois the liquor stores are open since local supermarkets don't carry premium brands. Lord knows how one can survive sheltering place for a couple of weeks without a swig;)

Yes, we've had a run on toilet paper, if you can believe it. I'd have thought if we were going into lockdown, in my order or priority would be food, good reading books, and alcohol (preferably fine wine). Keep safe SCL. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1)

The stores also seem to have run out of barbells and dumbbells. After the gyms closed everyone got the same idea. I'm forced to use two half gallon milk cartons filled with water.

I've seen a number of dumbells recently...the human kind, like the kids crowding the beaches :D

Day 3: a few shots. We go into shutdown here. Our local hairdresser.

A ring in. Just got this retina IIa back from retinarescue. I wished I could focus as good as he (Mr Sherlock) services these cameras. I have loaded it with FP4 and will go out foraging tomorrow morning.

And our local version of a solicitor. A good one. Maybe not Atticus Finch, but pretty close. He too closed down.

But, there you go. Still open.

In Maryland, liquor stores were deemed "essential" and remain open (thank goodness).

Meanwhile, although it changes daily, I continue to fly my schedule with the airline, trying to keep as safe as I (we) can. Even so, the airplanes are nearly empty and we keep flying, loading the cargo bins with freight and supplies.

Although taken a few years ago, I'm sure the scene is the same now 24/7 on the beach in Cancun.
