Been a quiet week for me - other than the local panic that seems to have set in: as I usually do, I call into Woolies on the way home to get dinner. Shelves had been stripped bare - no toilet paper, no hand sanitiser, no paracetamol. Ahem. Also, I couldn't find the negatives of the 'virgins' caps' in the Church at Eyam, taken with my retina IIc. So here some (very) older shots taken with my retina. So old, I can't recognise them, but I think taken on or about 2002, in or around Vancouver. Regards, Arthur (apiarist1).

I don't want to catastrophize, and it's out of place here. So moderator, remove this if you warrant. I here read articles like this: Trump Criticizes Media for Coverage of Coronavirus. It's a worry. I know some of the history of the black death (pneumonic plague), the white death (syphilis), the red death (tuberculosis) as they succesivleyy moved over Europe. I don't know what a subaltern country can do about the American hegemony when it's President is tharn ( a word from 'Watership Down', which I've found useful). Perhaps just grin and bear it?.

I expect you know the difference between the history of the Black Death in its Historical context and Corona in its context.

But that probably does not reinforce you personal political bias.

The clouds were fairly spectacular but I did use the texture and clarity filters in Light Room plus normal levels and contrast adjustment.

That's good. I wish I knew you, properly, face to face. I think I share many of your views. But whatever, the plague comes. And it will be horrendous. I went shopping yesterday morning at Coles; it was a cross between the hunger games, sharkado, and roller ball. I despair at my own country's political 'leadership' - 'hello, I'm Scotty from marketing' and his bleats about it's all normal. And I despair about the US and the narcissistic sociopath who is its President. We are walking into a catastrophe, and it will unfold. I pray to God that you and yours will be safe.

But what to do? Taking my prompt from the social histories of the black death (I must admit, I am not tutored in the 'spanish' flu history, nor SARS, and my knowledge of the black death only comes from my study of it as a precursor to the reformations), my wife and I went out dancing last night. Keep safe Moving On, you and yours. I can't help thinking of that wonderful phrase Christopher Bales said as Batman: 'There's a storm coming'. I think there is. From the antipodes, irrespective of what 'politics' means, I am dismayed that such a great nation, which has done so much to the world, as you say, now has such a poorly literate, narcissistic, sociopath as its President. It bodes ill for for the US's response to this looming catastrophe. And you know, Pence, what can you say, not the sharpest pencil in the schoolcase, but at least, from here, he seems to have surrounded himself with quite intelligent and thoughtful advisors. I continue to be amazed that while Oz has imposed entry bans on some other failed state countries, we haven't imposed those bans on the US. Beggars my mind. But there it goes. I used to work in corrections, and a favourite phrase we used was 'worse things happen at sea'. Again keep safe, Moving On. You are a tonic. Thank you, Moving On, for that. If you would excuse the arrogance, I suspect that there are depths in your life. I was aware of the death of Max von Sydow. A life so much lived. And a great movie clip that you post. For more reasons than I can list. I have my own copy. Is there not one wish that everyone wants before they meet death: to do one more meaningful thing. We photographers seek the light. It is our curse.

Things here have gone to hell in a teacup. Supermarket shelves stripped; fights over toilet paper, if you can believe that; hoarding. I was at church last sunday and our pastor, herewith:

A decent man. Why do I do this. He was unprepared to discuss the implications of covid 19 with the congregation. I am absenting myself from church now, at my cost. In my eyes, he is diminished. And that for me is a hard thing to do - being unable to express confidence in my own pastor. These are terrible times we enter, Moving On. May God look over you. I've spent the last two days working out protocols for my staff to work from home; curtailing any f2f engagements; shutting down community engagement activities; cancelling conferences and meetings. A nightmare.

Anyway, please forgive my rambling. For me it's late, and I have had a bad two days. You were prescient in welcoming me back. This forum is a bit addictive - hard to give up.
