Leica certainly never did 'in-house'. Military markings would've been added after the military acquired them. And then it was usually limited to things like Luftwaffe FL numbers or the Kriegsmarine KM.

I've seen Contax II cameras with periscope adapters. Buchheim himself carried a Leica III or IIIa when he was on U-96 as a Propaganda KB.

Eastman Kodak made the US Navy 35mm Periscope Camera Mk I. Mod 1. It is interesting as it had a prism viewfinder for looking through the periscope.The viewfinder looks somewhat like a reflex housing.

Maybe the owner knows it is fake, and is testing to see how long it takes you to figure it out.

 

The easiest one to see is that the shutter release doesn't use a Leica style cable release.

 

I do wonder how hard it would be to change that, if one really was trying to pull of a fake.

Some very early FED cameras had Leica style shutter releases - but they would be collectible themselves, as FEDs.
