cameragary
Thinking about picking up a brand new in the box with paperwork a canon 100 - 300mm fdn 5.6 zoom lens. F5.6 seems kind of slow but it is brand new and a steal of a deal. has anybody ever used it and can you give me your thoughts on it. thanks -- gary
dave_thomas8
I used one with a 2x telextender on my A-1 to photograph the solar eclipse in 2017. I don't think it will beat a recent L series, but IIRC, the acquisition price was around $85 which fell within what I was willing to spend. It (assuming it is the lens you're talking about) is a "one touch" that combines zoom and focus. For presetting to use in the dark, it would have been better to have those functions separate. But I came home with pictures.

cameragary
i also have a set of macro diopters in the size needed.i have had pretty decent luck with them.i guess i will have to learn its limitations as far as light.it should be a good lens for the beach/boardwalk i walk with on a daily basis.kinda wish i had it today on the beach as a gent was playing ball with his dog.would have been interesting to photograph
