mikolaip
Hi, all. I have a Hasselblad with the normal 80/2.8 T* CF Planar. Wanted to shoot closeups using my Nikon 2-element achromatic closeup diopters (5T and 6T, 62mm size). They perform really well with my 35 camera (quite sharp corner to corner at various apertures) but the results with the 'Blad were discouraging. No vignetting but the edges were really soft. With the weaker 5T the softness was gone past f16, with the 6T it was visible even at f22. Surprisingly, both stacked diopters worked better than the 6T alone. I tested this by photographing a flat surface (roadmap spread on the floor) with a very careful adjustment (good bubble level) of the position of the camera so the film plane was parallel to the map. Has anyone tried this "shortcut macro" with the 'Blad? I'm wondering, maybe the diopters are optically not compatible with the lens? The front element of the Planar is quite a bit recessed, as you know, way more than in my Canon lens. (Of course, no need to mention that the bare lens performs perfectly). Thanks, Piotr
bill brant
Piotr When I looked into the Nikon 5T/6T closeup diopters a while back, I noticed that they are to be used only with telephoto lenses. Nikon's Japan website is very clear on this: "5T and 6T are for telephoto lenses." Other references on the web are consistent with this. So, I belive the cause of your problem is that your 80mm is just a normal lens. However, I don't understand *why* the 5T/6T can only be used with telephoto lens, but I would sure like to know. Bill
jerry_lehrer
Pete We have been thru this twice before. I have used the 5T and 6T lenses with a Bay 50-62mm adapter on my 80mm and 150mm (H'blad) with no problems at all. Jerry
mikolaip
Yes, I have found those threads about macro (Proxars, tubes, bellows, Nikon diopters). They just didn't seem too conclusive to me. Yes, I have also taken nice shots (mushrooms, forest floor) with the 6T and 5T. However, those subjects were 3D. They were sharp and the surrounding area was naturally out of focus due to shallow DOF. So it's only after I had shot a FLAT 2D surface (nice patterns of a wooden board or pebbles on a sandy beach) did I notice the softness which could be attributed to the diopters rather than DOF. Anyone out there who noticed something similar? Thanks for your time and input.
